Hi there guys and gals. My name is Dean. 2 weeks ago i bought a 1995 JDM import NA8 with hopes of using it as a track weapon. Having never dríven an MX5 before this would be a new experience for me not only to own 1 of worlds top selling roadsters but also to drive a rear wheel drive. Needless to say as i was pulling out of the guys driveway with the top down a rather large smile came upon my face. Since that day i have dríven it everywhere and have been loving every second of it. Since that weekend of ownership a lot of work has gone into it for a two week period. I wanted to thank those on this site that write up technical guides, they have been a lot of help in attaching parts that i wouldn't have had the slightest idea of putting on, for example: Brown Davies Rollbar, Gearbox Boot and the most painful task of putting in rear brake pads. Although this is my first post and a member for 2 weeks those guides have been very, very helpful. Keep it up! I will have pics up this weekend as i haven't had a chance to get a day time photo yet. But Stay Tuned! So this is how the list stands at the moment keep in mind it was stock, this is what i've put in or on so far.

Welcome Dean! I started a remarkably similar journey almost exactly one year ago. Check out my garage thread and you'll see that I've done similar work to what you have planned, although I'm keeping mine stock as per supersprinting rules. And yes I had grief changing the rear brake pads the first time! That grub screw is a sneaky thing. Fronts are much easier! You might also add an LSD to your shopping list. And maybe a Flying Miata underbody butterfly brace (the strut brace is just bling). Once the modding starts, it's a slippery slope.

So I'd recommend that you focus on driving your trackcar on the track before worrying too much about improving it. After several trackdays you'll have a much better idea of where you need to spend money.

Welcome Dean,
Good to see some more Northern Brissy MX's.
Probably a bit late but there's a track day on Monday arvo at Lakeside, be good to come and have a gander or even better have a go.
Both Boags and I are only a few minutes from Lakeside and close to you.
If I can help give me a yell, check your pms.
Terry

Thanks for the welcome!
So glad to be an MX Driver now. Jeo my ride is RED as it goes the fastest, apparently.
Guran you must have missed the all important abbreviation JDM. As its a genuine Jap import it already has an LSD which is super. I also know about the slope you mentioned with modding. I have an SP20 and i had started to do that up for the track but parts are difficult to find so i got an MX for a dedicated track warrior. I have been doing sprints at Lakeside now since May last year with the Track Attack guys so i do know how to drive the track but if you've noticed the parts i've put in are to improve handling in some aspect or another. At a later date i will add go fast bits but i would rather be able to throw my car into a corner with the confidence and come out the other side with as much if not more speed than going in.
Cheers for the offer of help Terry, I might just take you up on that offer one day. Hey and were you and Boags in the production series that was on last w/end. that was such an awesome spectical with all those MX's. I was amazed to see the times those guys were putting down. Mindblowing to say the least.

Concentrating on the brakes and suspension is definitely the way to go. You have very similar mods to me, except I have braided brake lines and a home made master cylinder brace, both of which I can recommend.
My engine is completely standard and has 140,000ks on it. The only things I've bolted to the engine are a home made intake, a set of CES extractors, exhaust and a lightened flywheel and Excedy clutch. It only makes 105hp at thw wheels.

I was also racing with these guys at Lakeside, and even with my limited mods, I managed to finish in the top 5 or 6 in class all day and managed a pb of 1:04.92, so you don't necessarily need to go spending lots of money of the car to get amongst it and have some fun

Paul.

Welcome to the fold Dean.
The 5 is very addictive. Be prepared to do more on your car - especially if you're going to track it.
But I'm surprised, no one has mentioned it already......."Pix or Ban, Pix or Ban, Pix or Ban!!!"

Looks like a good base for a road/race car.
