Hey guys, welcome to my car thread. This is my 1991 Mx5

The Mx5's combination of performance, price, economy and wide availability of tuning parts and its tuning potential was something that I had been after since I started driving. After 2 years of research and saving, I found my very own 5 from a retiree, myself becoming the third owner and bought it bone stock in September 2008 with 130,000kms on the dial.

I enjoy doing DIY things to my car, well because 1) I'm bored as hell and 2) Its cheap and looks great. My thread also contains some write ups of my favorite DIY jobs for the NA

My Currently Installed Mods (in order):
Exedy Clutch
Seat Belt Brace

My Wish List:
Filter
2.25" full exhaust upgrade
Bucket seats
Roll bar

My Current Projects:
Hardtop Restoration

My Completed DIY projects:
Armrest Cup Holder (write-up in technical guides section)
Black wheels
Silver Front Grille
Black Front Lip
Tinted front indicators
Silver vent rings
Custom lip mounted number plate bracket
Wheel Repair / Paint job

To Do:
Get some tyres for my new rims
Get my spring + agx shock combo installed
Get Greddy Grex pads put in

Thats really tidy, great find! Have fun personalising it, but keep all of the original parts in a box somewhere  Original cars in really good condition (hopefully) will be worth a bit one day!

Have to agree... looks a really nice original car, by all means customise it, but don't "molest" it too much.

I've kept all my original parts, could probably revert the car to 100% original with a days work. You never know!
There can't be too many original NA's still around.

Very clean. I really like the 2nd pic. The capture of the glare with the composition of the water create an exotic feel. Simple and natural. Very nice.

Painted the stock rims black today, also found the time to mask it off and give it a silver lip. It was actually quite easy and only if you looked at it very closely you will see some little "accidents" with the paint job. But considering we did 8 wheels in less than 2 hours I think we did quite well haha. I decided to go one step up and sand off the silver lip to give it a polished lip. Turned out great.

IM SORRY! we just washed our cars and the roof was still wet! *cowers in fear*

His indicator lights arent missing, he put a black mesh grill there instead. Looks great even up close.

Had to sand the silver paint off completely, then just megular's metal polish "highest shine possible" and a terry towel + a lot of rubbing

Had some time today, and my friend wanted to experiment with HDRs. Here's what I got.

The first pic is an HDR photo taken without any fiddling with photoshop.

Then with some "touch ups" by my friends who happen to all do visual designing were undertaken

Later that night we also tried a very slow shutter speed. The red lines are about 2 - 3 minutes of traffic on New Line Rd, Syd :P

BAM, randomly decided a silver front grille would look nice.. I was going to do black, but last minute changed my mind.

Materials:
1.Wire Mesh
2. Wire cutters
3. Four very thin cable ties.
Optional - primer and spray paint

How to:
1. Didn't have any measurements to work with as I didn't have CAD to look at THIS, but I used the website's outside measurements of 700mm by 132mm and it was pretty much right. It was all just trial and error and cutting it little bits at a time.
1.5 (optional) - I didn't want the mesh to rust in future so I primed it and sprayed it with a metal rush protective spray paint, silver in colour.
2. Once the grill can fit inside and go all the way to contacting the black pillar things, you can simply cable tie it on. Lucky my arms were thin enough to fit inside and work with it.

And that's it!
