Saffa's 1993 NA6 now with MP62

Postby Saffa » Thu Sep 04, 2008 12:12 am

1993 Australian Delivered NA6.
Brought in Feb 2006 with about 86000Km on it, completely stock except for the Eunos badged front bumper and lip.

Mods so far:
-CD player & door speakers
-Hardtop
-Aircon from 94 model fitted (Mx5plus)
-New 'Tombstone' from Mx5plus
-Clear 'Euro' Taillights
-16inch White with polished lip Au Racing rims (Mx5 Mania)
-Yokohama C-Drives 205/55/16
-Tein Flex's with EDFC (Mx5plus)
-Chrome handbrake lever and shift knob with white "benny's boots"
-Painted white centre console
-X-Force Headers
-2.25 Inch Magnaflow Catback & Hiflow cat

Mods that are sitting around at the moment and will be going on soon:
-NACA Style duct (needs to be painted)
-Garage Vary front bumper (needs repair and to be painted)
-Trackdog racing Radiator cowl cover
-Rear shock tower strut brace (may not fit with the EDFC motors though....doh)
-Silicone radiator hoses (to go with....)
-Cooling Pro radiator (buying next month)

Trying to decide whether to save up and spend some cash on a supercharger or turbo at the moment, damn these hard decisions. ATM im thinking of either a Jackson Racing Supercharger or the BEGi S2 kit, its still a way off before I have the cash to do either though :( .

Enough of the dreaming though, in the short term im look to install a MegaSquirt PNP ditching the AFM in the process and i guess 'preping' the car (1.8 diff etc) for the eventual FI........and quite possibly some dual headlights and turn signal intakes cos i reckon they'll look pretty damn sweet especially with that Garage Vary bumper im putting on :D .

I can't find too many pics to put up right now but here's a few anyway...

Currently my room looks like a car shop with around 6 boxes of various things ready to go onto the car.

The main one being a FFS mp62 hotside kit

The kit arrived last week and I have recently acquired a stack of other things to put on with it. Such as:

MSPNP with WBO2 (installed but not running with IAT yet)
Cooling Pro radiator
Mazdaspeed Engine mounts
NB6 intake manifold and throttlebody - so i can run the PNP with the variable TPS etc. The FFS kit shipped with the NB dummy throttlebody adaptor and the BBK TB that came with the kit is ready to use with the later model TPS.
370cc injectors
Ebay intercooler (180x55) need to get piping made up for this.
Sideskirts (dunno brand got em from Mx5 Plus)

Now i just gotta get it on the car and probably get the clutch and diff sorted shortly after.

will try get photos up soon :D

Yeah i decided to take the plunge, had been putting it off to much so i just went ahead and did it...kinda broke now :( :(

But anyway, did a trial fit of the blower. Gotta move a few bits and pieces so i can get the intercooler piping in there.

Here's a pic of the trial fit.

No Idea just yet Danny, will have to have a look over it all tomorrow when I get up there. Thay have had a few issues getting the FFS kit on, it wasn't 100% bolt on, apparantly a bit of machining involved on the pulley, but I'll get the details when I chat to Matt and hand over the last of my funds :( , bit over budget you could say

Saffa's 1993 NA6 *MP62 on & some figures*

Postby Saffa » Sat Feb 28, 2009 1:45 pm

The guys have had issues with the SC belt coming off and spent all of yesterday trying to sort the issue out. This means that today my car is not ready :( Have had a call saying that it is all fixed and running well, so far made 140hp at the wheels they reckon another 10 or so could be made after a bit more tuning, boost is ranging from 10-12psi at the moment (supposed to be 10psi).

Also they are quite happy with the Plazmaman intercooler they are doing some long slow pulls and intake temps not rising very much at all, they are gonna hang on to the car for a few days and sort any other issues out that arise (idle etc) and at this stage looks like a Wednesday arvo pickup.

Tom's prototype made 170hp at the wheels, non-intercooled running his fifth injector and engine management card setup. That is using the stock injectors also, but I think they went through a few engines before settling on the current one they have now, which is stock except for bigger exhaust vavles. They did replace the pistons with stock Mazda ones, http://www.fastforwardsuperchargers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1214&page=3, so they may have rebuilt it to stock specs using new mazda peices i dunno?

My engine is pretty old and has not been rebuilt etc, even though it only has 140k on the clock it is still a 16year old engine. But they still haven't finished tuning just yet.

I think also to keep in mind is that this is getting tuned at the same place, Danny, Geoff and Mokesta have had their cars tuned at and they have turned off the correction for atmosphere, since Geoff was there with his JRSC kit on his 1.6, the other guys are running JRSC's on their 1.8's and from memory are getting 135hp uncorrected (mine NA uncorrected was 89whp). On that Link to the FFS site they pulled 160whp uncorrected on their dyno runs.

From what I was told I was expecting around 170ish but time will tell, but was alos told that 10psi was max boost and Tuners have said it ranges from 10-12psi.

Lots........after paying for the kit, there was shipping and customs to pay for it to get here, other things add up like intercooler kit, clutch, ecu was done before hand but is most likely something that you don't wanna be without, larger injectors which i would recommend if going the mp62 route as its running 10psi untill 6000rpm when it creeps up to 12 (so TAS tell me, haven't dríven the car just yet). Since im not particularly handy with this sorta stuff I wasn't able to save money by installing stuff myself, so factor that labour and tuning in as well and its a fair bit of coin your looking at.

In a perfect world I would have upgraded brakes, clutch, diff, ecu etc before even buying the supercharger kit, slowly prepping the car for FI, but that not the way things ended up going for me.

Oh and a final figure from TAS today, the car made 152rwhp and is ready to go
