Re: The Roadster NA Journey Begins
Gotta keep practicing that heel-toe Mark, can see you're trying but can still hear the rpm getting pulled up by the wheel speed. Bigger stabs on the throttle would help, the little blips you're doing aren't raising the rpm enough. Should be able to brake even later and harder if you can rev match perfectly. Little hesitant on the throttle at T5 too, you should be pinned full throttle before the apex there to get a good strong run down to T6. Still time to be gained, but definite improvements over previous onboard you've posted. Nice job.

Thanks for the feedback, agree on the heel toe, the blips I'm doing don't help much. T5 agree, I may try a short shift just before and see how that goes at the club day. Need to adjust the suspension to remove a bit of the understeer.

Re: The Roadster NA Journey Begins
Lakeside happy laps and breakfast, great way to start the day. Thanks to the MX5 car club for arranging.
Called it early as the rears pads are shot, called into plus and picked up a set of W3's for the rears. Rotors will be banished as they are stuffed. They were fine before Eastern Creek, possibly QR finished them off.
Had a good chat with Marty from Motorsport brakes about the fade at Eastern Creek and based on what I described it was more than likely brake fluid boiling. So looking at getting things down there cooler (3" ducts), change in rotor and brake fluid.
Not sure how to tell if it was the front or rear brakes that caused the fade, but looking at how the rears are it could have been theses that we're getting too hot, so maybe some cooling into the rears as well.

Things that don't go as expected, winding out the rear calipers! Also the pads have uneven wear so other issues at play with the rear brakes!
Marty also postulated that the issue at Eastern Creek could have been pad knock and looking at the symptoms and how quickly the brakes came back this is a distinct possibility. Just need to use the technique Doug at QR reinforces, a small touch on the brakes just before you need them, left foot braking.
So instead of changing pads Google is my friend, car loaded on the trailer and heading to Plus tomorrow.

Re: The Roadster NA Journey Begins
Car back home. Met Inspector McDonald on the way home, he wanted to do a license check. Spent about 15 mins chatting, actually the 7 year old was doing most of the talking, the Inspector commented that the reason for the check was he had not seen plates like mine. After the chat and check we went our separate ways.
The current alignment is bloody hard work on my thing other than smooth roads the trip home was s constant battle to keep it straight. Could not resist slowing down to 40 them accelerating to 80 in the tunnels, the sound is just awesome

Re: The Roadster NA Journey Begins
Well the miss that developed at the MX5 Car Club NSW at SMP, Eastern Creek, Mid Week Sprints and at the recent club day at QR got very worse last night coming home from the airport. In the tunnel I was reduced to almost 30 kmh with it burping and farting. Eventually it cam sort of good provided it stayed below 5,000 it was driveable.
Today decided to try and sort the problem out before Jap Nats on Saturday.
Did a run in the morning no change still missing above 5,000. Logged straight from the ECU to a lap top. File sent to Jason.
Cleaned the plugs and checked the gaps. Did another run, same result, file sent to Jason. Interestingly the plugs are nice and brown on one side only, the same pattern for all 4 plugs. These plugs were new for eastern creek so only have about 400 km on them.

Pumped out the E85 and replaced with 98, same test no change. File sent off.
This is my change fuel setup, thanks Jason. An AN fitting with a length of hose, jumper the fuel pump and collect in jerry can.

.
Jason rang back with some suggestions, CAS sensor replace and swapping COP's out (I have spares of both). Jason had also been looking into spark plugs and other possible issues that could be the issue. The photos of the spark plugs ruled them out of the equation. Since I had already swapped the CAS out tested with that change. Being very careful to make only one change at a time. Had the spare COP with me to test should the CAS not solve the problem.
BINGO miss gone car back to normal., CAS sensor The CAS was only about 12 months old but lucky I keep a spare. Even better the boys at Automotive Plus will bring a spare out with them in morning!
So now I know what the signs of a failing CAS sensor is on my car.

Re: The Roadster NA Journey Begins
Jap Nats again another PB on Clubman. Congrats to John Toomer for his 3rd in class and Danny for having a very popular car as well as it finishing in the top 10. Plus seeing Steve Glenney (in Danny's car) finish 4th for his first ever run on the sprint layout was worth it.
It was a drama filled day with a few fires, oil dropped on the track and spins. All in all a great day.
Learning more about the car, but the minor issue still popping up. Late in the day the car handled as if on ice, came into the pits and tyres were up at 36, this was from starting 26 cold. Explained the handling and why times were slower.
Again the brake issue kept coming back and after a thought by Jason I decided to have a look at the data. It is only small but it is there, the brake pressure is not being fully all the time from the system, creating a small amount of drag and heaps of heat. I assume it is in the back system, the pressure sensor only looks at system wide pressure not front rear pressures.
This was on the way to Jap Nats. Brake pressure is normally 209 (green), however it went up to 223 for no reason.

This is from QR, again the brakes did not fully release. Down main straight, release, after turn 1 not fully, just before turn 2 released, after not, dipper hard brake, even more pressure left in the system, small touch for 4, but still pressure left, down the small straight into 6 hard brake and heaps left in the system. Time to go back through the previous data and see how long it has been there for.

Well, had a look at the data from Eastern Creek. I had an issue with the logger and only got stuff from the first session. Issue now fixed by the way. Rear pads and calipers have been replaced/refurbished since Eastern Creek, but the issue is still the same, a retaining of pressure in the brake system

Re: The Roadster NA Journey Begins
More odd jobs done today. Fixed up the calibration on the TPS that was being logged by the Innovate (the PS1000 has its own). The PS1000 and the Innovate now report the same percent.
Calibrate the fuel gauge finally, will test it tomorrow to see how well it works. It was human error for it not working, I just rechecked all the wiring and found the mistake... So if anybody is thinking of using an IQ3 dash and need a working fuel level the solution is easy. It was getting very annoying having to guess how much fuel I had used. At Jap Nats went with a full tank, put 20 ltrs in and thought I should almost be full again, turns out less than 10 ltrs in the tank!
Empty 3.90v
10 ltr 2.91v
20 ltr 1.95v
30 ltr 1.30v
Full 0.77v
So car off to Plus as previously mentioned. Also on the agenda is working on the feedback from MR Tuning hopefully some of this will be done for Morgan Park.

It arrived 4 days after being posted, install took about 60 mins max (I did it myself for once).
The car will be going in to have the wind deflectors installed and the rest of the painting done. Next update in a few weeks.

With regards to the install, how did you decided where to drill the installation points? Love your wing, inspired me to get a GT Wing!

Re: The Roadster NA Journey Begins
The instructions provided explained where to drill. It is a nice wing.
Recent feedback on the mounting and wing stability at speed plus the boot lid is being deformed is resulting in a new mount design and bracing. Simply There is too much lateral movement. The height will not change.
Charlie91 used wire stretched diagonally from each side to brace his wing however looking at bracing in the boot similar to what Plus has done for other cars. Whilst I'm trying to avoid doing R&D there are no off the shelf mounts available,

Re: The Roadster NA Journey Begins
It is good to have an accurate fuel gauge again. IQ3 dash says 16 ltrs left, filled up with 28.4 ltrs.
Also a good check of how the values are interpreted as voltages were taken at 0, 10, 20, 30 and full (45).

Re: The Roadster NA Journey Begins
Again the fuel gauge never ceases to impress, gauge said 3 ltrs left, put in 20 and gauge says 23!
Did some more odd jobs over the past few days, took some of the dude to side movement of the spoiler, swapped discs for T3's bedded them in no real difference in the brakes but should run cooler at least on the front. The T3's have an interesting entrance for the air.
Worked on putting the finishing touches to the splitter, however a few failures with the aluminium U channel. Decided to do a different approach and it worked, however not enough u channel left to finish the job
a The monopan has the honeycomb exposed where it was cut so using the U channel to make it look neater.
Back to work tomorrow, then Morgan Park on 11 July!

Re: The Roadster NA Journey Begins
Morgan Park - had a great time and enjoyed the day. Car is getting more of a handfull as I start to push the car as a driver, such a good feeling. Starting to get oversteer accelerating from the apex of corners, but the nothing that can't be controlled (and the type that leaves a smile).
More time to be spent getting the wiring neat and a few other jobs still to be ticked off. This includes swapping out the electric for manual windows and removing the Innovate water/volt/oil/pressure guages from the car. More than happy with the cooling setup and since these are setup (oil/water/pressure) on the IQ3 (with warnings) they are not required anymore.
New splitter has been built, very happy with the result. Version 3a will be one that is 50mm longer which whilst illegal for the street is legal for the class I have chossen to compete in. Simply a case of swapping as required, mounting points remain unchanged.
The miss at the track keeps comming back late in sessions so more time is needed to find the cause. When home next will check the COP's for any signs are arcing out if this is not the problem then plan B.
Next track outing will be fine tuning the suspension settings and getting some hot/cold temps for the AD08's. Winmax 6.5's have been ordered for the fronts, hopefully will have them in about 3 weeks.

I have tried the ad08r's on 31, 32, 33 and 34 psi. Similar days at lakeside, times have been reasonably consistent. I don't think it makes heaps of difference with them. Pretty decent tyre. Good luck with them!
