yep, our cars have always been named by colour

"the blue car"
"the gold car"
"the red car" = a problem now that my mx5 and Dad's new Walkinshaw are both red...

you could just call it "the loud car" :D ?

Actually I call mine the Blue/Silver NA6 :)
The Amarok is the black car.

I'm so looking forward to seeing the aero package as well as talking to Danny about it :)

Imagine if Danny named all his cars ..

If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

A name for it?

CROSSDRESSER

:D

It will fool everyone. This is no hairdresser's car!!

I also thought of Wolf, but that's a bit boring, something this NC isn't.

Simple!!

A -B-C-D-E-F and so on, thn all you need is X-Y-Z!!

In tomorrow Danny, may see you slip thru the workshop!

As for mine? 'This one', 'that one' and 'Miss Daisy'! Well your guy's named the NA 'Animal' and that's kinda stuck!

Was fun 'Driving Miss Daisy' around Lakeside with 30 odd 86/BRZ's and then a cruise up to Maleny via Mt Mee and Bellthorpe [oh what FUN!!]

So, the 86 has finally had some track time!!

Danny, I'm interested that you are keeping the standard stalks for lights and windscreen wipers. Is that for ease of wiring and case of they're already there so you don't want to change things around??

I have always found it easier in my competition cars, where the rules have allowed, to have basically as little as possible near the steering column so indicators, wipers etc don't come on when things get busy.

Image

In the photo you can see the switch gear is simple and easy to use and the fuses are also easy to see and reach. In the Zed critical fuses for the ECU and fuel circuit were replaced with automatic circuit breakers under the bonnet, which was quicker to remove for access than trying to get up under the dash. The wiring on a 40 year old car with 20 year old EFI is a lot simpler than todays' cars......

I can also set up wipers and lights to work the way I want, not the way the standard switches work.

For example, wipers I like to have on one switch that is off or on at full speed. I don't have a washer fitted if rules say it is free, just rely on discipline not to use the wipers if oil is thrown up and rain-x to clear the screen in light drizzle or showers as I only run one wiper anyway.

Blinkers are set on a toggle switch mounted horizontally for left/off/right and no need for hazards because race car

Headlights for the Zed were toggle switch for off/High no low beam just high beam because race car.

For the S14 the headlights will be on a rotary switch with 4 positions - off/high/flash both/flash alternate

Like the Zed, the switches for the S14 will all be on a panel in where radio and HVAC switch gear would otherwise be.

I also have the ignition and fuel pump switches there and will have the start button on the transmission tunnel in a similar position to the way Saabs fitted the keys when the S14 gets wired up.

One change I will make is that I will only have circuit breakers on all circuits, a mixture of automatic and manual depending on the criticality of the circuit and the potential for damage to the protected components. I am also planning to have basically two separate looms in the car, one for ECU, engine control such as fans, fuel pumps and ignition and the second for all the ancillaries needed like lights wipers, windows and mirrors.

The only other switch that maybe fitted will be for a demister kit if I find that blow through ventilation doesn't cut it. Basically the air inlets for the car are ducted directly to the windscreen so as long as the car is moving cold air is being blown on the screen. Then I will look for a supplier for heated windscreen or look for a kit to apply to my windscreen.

I never used the rev counter, on mine. Just watch the oil pressure drop, then change gears. Still that was back in the 90s front cut s4 rx7 less than grand.
Really enjoying the build, can't wait to hear it on the main straight pulling 10k!
