Re: Daffy's SE
Had Matty at PITS play a little with the Haltech tune to sort the Idle issue with the A/C running. Sorted, but still going in for a proper tune review shortly . Meanwhile, a fill up at Warwick United with e85, drive back to Coolangatta via Boonah and Beaudesert (a fair share of some winding roads- that do need some work ) a dozen "angry" overtakes and then About 45 minutes of stop start crawl along peak hour traffic on the M1 at 4:30pm, still managed only half a tank fuel consumption for just over 200ks...........not bad!

Re: Daffy's SE
Still just a little touch lean on full boost- but running in strictly stop start peak hour traffic on E85 (with a couple of quick squirts) seems to manage about 30 to 40ks less than I get on the open highway drives. The Problem Child goes back to the dyno Wednesday for a little more adjusting. (On NitroDann's advice, I'll look at being able to run the 95 on the ULP map so as not to get caught out in areas that dont have 98)

Re: Daffy's SE
Established an issue with the Deatschwerks fuel pump and/or fuel filter on the Dyno today, at this stage looks as if the deatschwerks is a no go for the problem Child- should have and will do the Walbro 460 now, just to be done with it ( the more I discover about the Deatschwerks the less impressed I get- on peak boost the autometer A/F gauge is reading mid 12's- waaayyyy to lean. Hopefully by tomorrow with the Walbro in and a new fuel filter for good measure I should be seeing 11.1 or 11.2 (this engine will last long term damnit!!!)- thankfully discovered before the 2000 odd km round trip to Sydney in the next couple of weeks.
Now for something unrelated....... If I ever catch ANYONE putting nail or screws under any car tyres or under the windscreen wipers ect, I will kick their ass from here to next year! (And back again)
The problem Child was parked out near the Broadbeach CBD. A local shop keep seen me getting in, approached me and said a couple of guys were kneeling around the back of the car looking suspicious. I thanked him for letting me know, had a quick look, as I've seen people checking it out before and not thought too much about it, nothing seemed untoward. Later, while the car was on the dyno this arvo, we noticed the air pressure in the rear passenger tyre seemed down, new tyre, bit strange- so we put some air in and bang...... big gash blowout on the inside wall, and a shiny, brand new larger size wood screw sitting on the dyno pit floor. $250+ of new AD08r totally F**Ked cause some F***er with a pea brained 5yo mentality wanted some high 5 validation from a dumb f**k mate. (There is a couple of new hi rise apartments going up in the immediate area where I had parked, and lots of building scraps lying around). Another $300 odd (with a new balace and wheel alignment) that didn't need to be spent looking to replace what was a near new tyre.......F**kers.....

Spewin about the Deatschwerks AND the new tyre, I haven't changed fuel pumps YET so happy to get your feedback.
Are you using a fuel pressure regulator?

If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Re: Daffy's SE
Thanks for the info about Deatchwerks! For if/when I needed a new pump, I was looking to them as they're meant to be much quieter than comparable Walbros, but if they don't do the job what good are they?
And man that pisses me off about the nail in the tyre!

Re: Daffy's SE
With a bigger pump will come increase draw on the OEM wiring, worst case is you will get voltage drop and the pumps efficiency will be reduced. Also a good time to check your fuel pressure regulator...

Re: Daffy's SE
Should have added you can use something like this to monitor the current draw on the pump.
An ideal addition to any low voltage DC system this digital power meter features real time display of the voltage, current draw, and power consumption. Once running it also stores minimum and maximum voltage, current, and power, together with cumulative amp hours and watt hours consumed by the connected equipment. Suitable for DC systems from 5 to 60 volts and available in versions suitable for inline connection or remote connection with a separate current shunt. Mount the meter using the included snap-in bracket or magnetically on any ferrous surface

Thanks mate, I will get to jaycar in the next day or 2 and invest in the power meter- great to get your feed back, and some serious work I have read in what you sorted with your fuel system

Too true Lachy. It was a component of the flyn miata big fuel kit.
See the link below with some feedback on another forum about the Deatchwerks pumps. A truer statment never said as in the Vincent Vega picture

Ive got an AEM regulator in Okibi, and it it showed nil issues during the dyno run- I had a previous issue with an in tank connection plug off the Deatchwerks that had corroded (we just pulled the corroded plug away and solder the connection directly). The previous Walbro I had in gave me no issue, and so far everyone I spoke to who have had Deatchwerks in have got rid of them for one reason or another..... check out this link for some interesting reading on Deatchwerks poor custome service and warranty

Theres a whole world of whip ass and hurt if I ever find out who lay the nail- check out the close up pic.... they had 3 cracks at getting it in

Re: Daffy's SE
New walbro 460 assembly complete and in, also managed to get Bob janes at tweed to get in a replacement ad08r in a one day turn around..... orderd at 8am and in the same day .
The Walbro is actually quieter than the Deatchwerks pump!
Havent had a good run and the Haltech is still adjusting to the new set up, but at this stage the fuel delivery feels much smoother ( the was times of slight hesitation before with the Deatchwerks).
We also noticed that just by design, the Deatchwerks filter seemed to sit on the base of the tank..... possibly inhibiting the draw???
I'll be trying to get a good feel of the new set up in the next few days when this rain clears up. I have seen the A/F gauge numbers drop between 10 and 11, so it seems at this stage the leaning out issue is sorted. Zoom in on the pictures and you can see how the E85 affects the metal in the pump assembly- I also seen some "acne" on the Deatchwerks pump too.

Re: Daffy's SE
Learning some new and hip pocket hurting things about running E85 most of the time...... well almost all the time. The Haltech elite 1500 doesn't seem to like condensation it appears. The internal map sensor as we have discovered looks to have been affected by condensation from the E85 and is, while the key is in ignition but engine not running, reads a -10 vacuum!! Issue found for why the problem child was running lean, dangerously lean for a few weeks now.
Solution hatched, bypass the internal sensor with a Haltech 3 bar external MAP sensor and in line vacuum apexi filter fitted (the filters on their own would have saved the cost of having to get the new sensor-
(hind sight, great way of making you feel stupid).
Prior to knowing all of this yesterday, the child was "safely" re tuned richer and de-boosted a few psi for piece of mind for the impending Sydney trip next week- spoke with the child's tuner today, but he's snowed under and can't get to it again prior to me leaving for Sydney to have him fit up the external sensor and filters as well as re mapping it back to Its V8 slaying best. So I have a temporarily milder problem child to show off next week (she's still bloody quick though), I'm sure someone in the forum may have touched on this issue somewhere along the line, but as usual, me, getting from A to B via................
