As you know Dann, I have been thinking along these lines... but the closest E85 station to me is around 100km away.

I was thinking of going up and buying a drum, tuning on it and doing the IM240, then retuning for Premium. I might still do this if I have issues on Premium.

If anyone sold it down here, i'd be all over that.

Thankfully, dad has a super-accurate portable EG analyser that we can tune with. It doesn't measure NOx, but there seems to be a nicely inverse relationship between NOx and hydrocarbons (ie. more hydrocarbons, less NOx). I'm thinking that we tune to get the hydrocarbons relatively close to tolerance, and we should be OK for NOx.

Time will tell though... gotta get the snail in and running first!

Your spot on about the oxides of nitrogen content.

So I guess its a 3 gas analyzer? Expensive bit of gear... Jealous much :P

It'd be nice if he had a dyno tho... :(

Holy crap.

OK, so the turbo is in, car starts and runs OK...

But didn't have any new o-rings for my RX8 yellow tops. So...

Boost down to 8psi, rough tune with the standard injectors, and took her for a quick blat... in the pouring rain...

Wow. This thing HAULS. No tune, tiny injectors, only 8psi... but WOW! Sideways at the slightest provocation, wheelspin in third gear... yeah baby!

Hoping to get the yellow tops in and get some more tuning done this week before taking her down the coast this long weekend :)

Super update, Chris. It's really coming together for you. Can anyone here help you with the parts you need? At least one person on the forum works in Mazda parts...Chook?

The O rings are a generic part available at any efi shop. Well done also :D

Ah, those pics! I was going to buy that car except a Clubman came up.
Chris can confirm, but I believe that these are the Sparco NT 17s that he posted here (I put in the link since he has more pics!):

They are striking wheels!

Yep, that's them. They are on my mum's car ATM. They are awesome looking wheels but a little heavy for track work.

In other news, and with the Clubman, I had to make a few small adjustments today as I work through the teething issues with the turbo. It is just getting better and better every time I drive it, and the more tuning I do. I have now taken 5 people for a drive in it and they all want to buy it off me :)

The RX8 injectors are ready to go in, but that will have to wait now. My new kart will be ready on Wednesday, and I am racing the next three weekends :)

So the torrential rain dissuaded me from taking my shiny new kart to Newcastle to race this weekend... so I had some spare time to install the RX8 injectors.

Install was easy - start the car, disconnect the pump relay, remove the fuel cap, remove the rail and the old tan tops and slot in the bright yellow RX8 injectors. Reverse the process and have a beer. The entire install took about 30-45 minutes.

I took a guess and scaled the fuel table down around 30%. I then did some rough tuning to try and get the AFRs closer to where they should be but much more tuning is needed. It is idling great though - that is a relief.

Clutch slave cylinder crapped itself a few weeks ago and I finally got around to replacing it today. Nice to have a clutch again!

Also raised the car 15mm all round as I was sick of the lack of clearance (was running 85mm before).

Still needs a lot of tuning - my AFRs are all over the place.

Made the effort (finally) to upgrade the DIYPNP firmware to 3.1.1 yesterday (it had been on 3.1.0u IIRC). What a PITA, having to reset EVERYTHING (including all thermistor settings, TPS calibration, resetting base timing, etc). I hope there isn't another new firmware update anytime soon!

Still, on the upside, I have noticed a small improvement in idle and a noticeable improvement in top end performance. No idea why as my map is otherwise unchanged...

Tune is MUCH better. AFRs are basically where they should be, and I am now fairly happy with my overrun cut-off settings, MAT curve and barometric correction curve (I do a far bit of altitude change driving between the Highlands and the coast). Idle is pretty good too, even with some heat soak.

My last real hurdles are AE and EAE, and timing. Dad is going to drive which will give me a chance to play with the settings on the move. Some homemade DIY det cans should help with the spark table.

Lots to do before WP on the 4th - though given the rainy forecast, I'm probably going to give racing a miss this Sunday so that should give me some more time ;)
