Thanks for the feedback mate. For gears I’m in Third from T2 to the fishhook, second around the Fishhook and second into T10.

You make a good point about Apex’s, after I made that post I spent a little bit of time in Circuit tools looking at the Delta-T’s and lines between the instructors lap, my lap and a couple of my other faster laps to see where I was making and losing time.

Looking at the data I definitely am missing a couple of the apex’s, on T2 it looks like I’m apexing too early and on T10 I’m apexing too late. You can see it on the video too since I’m tracking out on T2 with less corner speed than most people and on T10 I’m not tracking out with a much lower corner speed than others which makes it look like there is room to Apex earlier with more speed and track out since I don't think I can apex on my current line with more speed. Improving the lines in those two corners alone must be worth nearly a second given the straights after both :D

Here is the comparison between my corner speeds and everyone else's from the Wakefield Speeds thread:
Image

Here’s the instructors lap where he takes a much better line than me in T2 and T10 (he took 3rd through the fishhook which I think contributed significantly to his lower lap time as well as two people in the car):

As you can see I'm a bit of a data analysis nerd but it seems to help me. If anyone has any VBO data to share I'd really appreciate it.

I'll have a pbox down at the track day on Sunday, will be good to compare data. I'm hovering around the 1.12 mark

Dan also have a look at the max speed down the straight and how long it takes to accelerate to this speed. For me at least, I have the same corner speeds as much faster cars, however lack the acceleration out of the corners.

Can you also look at when the others are braking as this will also help explain some of the 'slowness'.

If it makes you feel less nerdy I just did a whole pile of acceleration, force, torque, mass, time calculations in my build thread regarding gearbox/final drive ratios. The conclusion was it is much better if the driver and the car loose the weight than swaping a final drive ratio.

Regie - sound good, I'll bring my laptop, I'd love to overlay our laps :)

Magpie - That's a great point, I am definitely thinking of exit speeds and understand corner speeds don't tell the whole story, it needs a full set of data to compare them though.
Guran is a good example of someone that has incredible corner speeds for his setup but when I watch one of his videos I can see why he has the cornering speeds he does.

I'll try and get down your way this year and we can compare nerd notes :)

Plus I can produce a VBO file for you.

Haha, should of used the quote tool.

Overlay our lap times in circuit tools on my laptop.

Haha yep sweet.

Looking at your video I don't hit 2nd gear at all around the track, it looks like you hit 2nd around the fish hook and turn 10. I'm also grabbing 4th after t2 and holding 4th thought t3 then back to 3rd for the t4 right hander. Then again I have a 4.1 rear end which will make a bit of difference.

Yeh, I think it is probably the FGR. There was actually some good talk from Charlie Brown and others earlier in this thread about gear selection.

If I can get some more corner speed around T2 I can see the rev limiter being hit by T3 but I'm still not sure if I'd shift or just leave it on the limiter for a second or so.

Just read CB's post regarding gear changes. I'm pretty much the same as him. That was a old post and I would have had my 3.7 fgr in then.

I haven't touched 2nd gear even with the taller fgr. I might do some experimenting....let's see if the rev limiter is there  haha.

Last SOTS day I was grabbing 5th down the straight

Come and find us on Sunday, will be good to meet you :D

Yeh, always good to try things, don't downshift too low and over rev though :o

I'll keep an eye out for you on Sunday, I'm in car #1 (Black with brown top).

Was cool meeting you as well. Was a wet day but a ton of fun! My girlfriend got some pictures on my camera from the hill of our group, hopefully I've got one of you :)

Luckily I didn't go off myself but I ended up having a bit of a slide just after T5 after coming out too wide onto the ripple strip which was like hitting ice.

Managed a 1:16.00 in the end on official timing, not too upset about that since I was being pretty cautious about the circuit being partially damp.

Thanks everyone for a fun day, I'll be at circuit club next Monday if anyone's around.
