Jace, did you decide on a brace on the basis of it easily clearing the intake? I've been looking at them but the risk of not clearing the intake has been putting me off.

Looks great, but aside from looks, can you feel any difference, when the suspension is heavily under load?

Ben, are you on a stock intake? Are you thinking of a Mania style intake?

I'll happily take you up on that offer!

I have just noticed it clears the mania intake... I'd be curious to know if it also clears with the ARC chamber i have...

i made it fit. it touches, but firm enough not to rattle on it or cause problems.

the mania intake "kit" includes very vague bracketry and no hardware so i made my own bracket out of 20x3mm alu. which probably lowered the intake. i expected more for the price of it.

the brace did little for handling. stiffened it up a smidgen. the RS*R brace i had on my last car made it much more understeery, probably because i had it adjusted too long or too short.

suss the blog, probably 1/2hour of my time total

soaking them in vinegar wasn't very labour intensive thankfully, what a vile substance it is

I bought it very soon after being a passenger in HamX5ter and think it's a fun and maybe slightly beneficial mod.
I just hate the idea of cutting a hole in the firewall for it!

It's a Mania one like Jace's and I'm looking to be reassured about a suitable brace, then probably doing them at once.

If a NB OEM brace could fit around the Mania intake, then that might be worth doing. Hence my interest in Jace's work here!

it's not a big deal if they're touching firmly, the intake is flimsy and worthless and the strut brace is solid. i'll alter the support for the intake a little bit more one of these nights

here's a pic after tonights efforts, more on the blog@ http://unobtainableisnothing.tumblr.com/

thanks phil. remind me why you don't have a NA? a man of taste needs a faithful and enjoyable chariot.

long time no update

so over the last week or so i had been babying my broken diff around until i could get the parts to swap in a new one.

got a tailshaft off Richie before i headed to Garage Cafe to grab a welded 7" 4.1:1 with driveshafts from Ty last night.

my cousin is a teacher on school holidays so he was pretty siked to give me a hand to put it in, so that was 9-1 today.

Image

yeah, i'm pretty keen to be rid of that filthy exhaust.

star shark time is nigh. the shop i sent them to took their time to keep costs down (still exxy, but ya know)

more very soon.

time for a wee update

i got my starsharks back a week ago and i've been slowly working on them. smoothing the insides with 2000 then applying a few coats of wheel-wax, waxing the lips and putting the bolts in.

Image

Image

i'll be zinc coating the bolts and dying them black, and i hope to paint the centers an cast iron colour, so that with black bolts, wheel nuts and center caps i should get some nice contrast between the lips!

Image

got the stickers reprinted too!

Image

i picked up my Mesh from Dan/Rupewrecht yesterday, and gave them a good clean down today

Image

the lips aren't quite as fucked as the Star Sharks were, but they're not brilliant either.

once i've worked out who's working on the lips, i'll know whether i can pull the centers out to have them blasted and clearcoated
they'll also have black bolts and i've got a set of black center caps for them too!

i scored a cheap set of Maxim Works headers off Rupewrecht too. I'm going to wrap them in heat tape, then once the new o2 sensor and gaskets get here i'll chuck em in and get a highflow cat put in as well.

circumcised my left hand driveshaft somehow. getting a replacement tomorrow hopefully!

The work you are doing on the star sharks is spectacular! Might I ask please, where did you get your stickers reprinted?

I look foward to see what you can do with the meshies!!
