Re: NitroDann's Long Awaited Garage Thread
Its a huge resonator, to remove the subaru sound. It has all sort of chambers and walls inside it.
The airbox has a 6 litre bulb helmholtz resonator underneath it also, so I removed that and fitted a second pipe down into the stock foglight location to feed it. It sounds great. Its nice from inside the car, silent on cruise but roars when you open the throttle and rev it. Stationary revving from next to the car is LOUD, he loves it, I think he might G-Up some P platers with it haha.
Putting extractors and exhaust on it soon.

I had a fiddle with these Liberties before, is there supposed to be a massive plastic cover that is held in with plastic push pins, effectively hiding this new intake anyways?

Re: NitroDann's Long Awaited Garage Thread
Okay,
So Ive got some work ahead of me now!
Ill not name names, those who are getting the work done can pop in and talk if they want to.
Im currently building a full 1.8 turbo setup, utilizing a ball bearing Garrett T28 turbo, 2.5" exhaust and dump, and Im doing all of the Intercooler piping, and the intake.
The other one is a mate of mine who is T28ing an SE, the manifold will be a tubular version of the stock SE manifold, as in, it will have stock location but nice big 1.5" tubular runners!
Im also doing a full exhaust including headers for a regular forum user, in a 2.25>twin 2.5" dual exit system. Cant wait to sink my teeth into that.
Also Ill be working on a project for another member doing a pretty custom one off exhaust that if I give some details might let the cat out of the bag, but of course will be a mandrel system with V bands and the works.
Lastly my mate is dropping of his 13B Turbo FC RX7 on tuesday with an intercooler, and I have a 3" Varex muffler here for it already. Im doing intake, intercooler and I believe a 3" to twin 2,5" exhaust including the variable volume muffler!

Re: NitroDann's Long Awaited Garage Thread
Ill do my best to take plenty of photos of each build.
Ill try to take enough photos of one of the manifold builds to make it into a time lapse, I think people would appreciate seeing the work that goes into it.
Im compiling my exhaust parts list for the next months worth of work right now....
Ten minutes later,
Not including the RX7 which I havnt looked at properly yet Ill need more than 20 x 90* mandrel bends, more than 20 flanges about half being manifold or turbo flanges and half V Bands, more than 40 steampipe bends for the manifolds and over 10m of straight pipe sections!
There will be lots of pipes!
And then the rx7 will need at least 7m of straight pipes and probably 15 odd mandrel bend sections.

Re: NitroDann's Long Awaited Garage Thread
Ok one more post
Of the metal workers, please recommend me some tools for the workshop.
Im looking at a bench grinder, with a rough and smooth side, and a second grinder with a linisher on one side and a wire brush on the other.
Also a new pipe vice.
Im not sure If I can justify a disk sander for finishing pipes nice and straight, Id love a horizontal bandsaw but just dont have the cash.
Thoughts? Input?
Thanks guys,
Im just looking for stuff to make my work easier, and so that I can produce better finished parts in a reasonable amount of time, right now, finishing exhaust pipes so that I can lay down sexy welds just takes so many man hours.
Cheers,
Dann

Re: NitroDann's Long Awaited Garage Thread
Dann just get a half decent linisher, will make life much easier and you can deck all your pipe surfaces flat in no time. Easy to bevel edges with too. Also look at an electric die grinder, I just picked up a portable makita unit and just attach bits onto it like small flap disc's, carbide burr and small ss wire brush and scotch brite wheels, I can smash through cleaning now. There's probably heaps of other stuff out there I dont know about but this works fine.
Look at some of the stong hand clamps also, I picked up this little mag tab, makes life much easier when you need to line things up or weld little stuff to your pipe. There a vid of it on weldingtipsandtricks.com

Re: NitroDann's Long Awaited Garage Thread
Do you recommend one of those 2 inch wide linishers that attaches to a grinder, or a belt sander/disk sander combo? One of the ones with a 5 inch wide linisher?

Re: NitroDann's Long Awaited Garage Thread
Dann i use a wide belt linisher. Say you need to deck some 3" pipe, you can do it much easier with the wider belt. Good for when you want to fuse stainless and stuff as you need a really tight fit otherwise you will blow holes. That's just my opinion man have a good look around and see what else is out there. Hare and Forbes have 2 big sales on yearly, I bought all my stuff when the last sale was on might be worth giving them a call will save a few hundred

Re: NitroDann's Long Awaited Garage Thread
Ok,
So the bench top is temporary, Ive got a proper one coming which will make both benches into one big L shape.
Heres the new benches with some new tools to really get me going, along with the obligatory shot of some current jobs.
Old work area, still being used for mechanical work, filthy. i also still use this for heavy metal work, rather than shaping I still do cutting and drilling here as you can see by the Drop Saw, the Angel Grinder and the Drill.

New benches and tools! I got a new air powered Die Grinder, thats the yellow thing. The bit on the left is a Bench Grinder (der) which Ive just put a SS Wire Wheel onto one side to clean up my work before wiping with acetone then welding, and on the right is a 4" wide Linisher with a 6" Disk Sander on the side, got some other bits too like a vice etc.
Above it all is my exhaust pipe rack, below is a small portable stick welder (yellow) and some boxes full of pipe offcuts and mandrel bends.

Some current work.

Dann
EDIT: Thanks to RXMX for giving his advice, Ive already had a play with the new gear and I fully agree these are the tools to get.
