Re: Ben Sale's white 1990 NA6
They're great fun, I would like to try and do more so I get more better at remembering the tests and better consistency. I think I've done around 5 now and am slowly getting better.
I think the 4 I didn't get lost on resulted in three 1st's and a 2nd place. But the rest I stuffed up well and truly.
Yes, entered for Phillip Island - can't wait !

Re: Ben Sale's white 1990 NA6
Great day at Phillip Island..! Got a 1:57.7 and I think there is still a bit left in it as going by other peoples relative results the track was up to a second off optimum and I think there is at least 5 tenths, maybe a bit more in it as I lost 4ths in one sector on my best lap & I didn't take my brave pills so wasn't as fast through turn 1. Pretty amazing improvement to pick up 2 seconds I think, I'm just a little in love with the suspension as the last few posts will testify.
Thanks to -Alex for the great photos.

Nice one Ben, Alex posted some great photos on friendface.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

You're fast enough as it is! Haha ;)
I think a lot of MX-5 people don't realise the differences between something like the BC, Tiens or the Koni / King style setups compared to the higher end stuff. Certainally was an eye opener for me!

MCA make good stuff. Don't think they have an MX-5 setup on the market quite yet.. They used to be fitted to most of the front running Tarmac rally cars (which i think is a tangible testing ground) but now all the guys who are winning and on the podium run KWs.
In Europe KW has also basically taken most of the racing market from Ohlins too..

I know they've got it in development. It's good to see more options better than the old standard of the Bilstein PSS9 on the market for MX-5s. And at a better price point than Ohlins & Penske.

MCA are on all the top running WTAC cars.
They and KW are all in a different price bracket to your average track day attendee.
Only teruo can spend Penske money.

Weitec is KWs lower priced brand. Same tech, same factory & about $1200 for an MX-5. Even without some the features and adjustments of the KW competitions they'd be in a different league to similarly priced competitors.
MCA did get 1-2-3 there last year which is pretty impressive. KW were 1-2-3 at Targa (Lamborghini, GTR, TTRS) until the TTRS blew a turbo.

Re: Ben Sale's white 1990 NA6
Haven't had much chance to drive the car lately, works been crazy. We managed to make it to Phillip Island for half the day on the 17th though which was awesome fun!

Alex had her first go at P.I and despite only getting two sessions out there before we had to go managed to crack into the 2:03s which is pretty epic for a first time! I think if we stayed the whole day at the rate the times were falling a 2:01 would have been achievable.
I missed out on any PBs as I got the suspension settings wrong in the first flying session. I trying a new setup due to limitations in a few corners last time out (where I did a 57.7). Annoyingly in the first session the car had understeer, the front tyres were 15deg down on the rears (which were at optimum temp) and so I made some changes to the compression and rebound settings to fix it. What made me really happy was that next session it was perfect, hitting target temp on all four tyres with less than a 5 deg variance across the face of the tyre. The car was also amazing through Southern loop, Siberia and Lukey Heights which are good test corners. The track was a bit hot by that stage, but the car felt amazing while hitting consistent 58.1s and 58.2s. With the right conditions and a few brave pills I think there is a 56 in the car, just need to get everything right in the first cooler session.

That explains it, I have Apu, Bryan's NB8C here with weitec's and it is extremely well damped.
