Didn't get a chance to go get the car tuned yet as there was a bit of a setback....

I was getting a weird sound coming from around the turbo/manifold area and suspected an exhaust leak from somewhere. After some poking around and listening had it narrowed down to coming somewhere from the manifold.

Tightened up all bolts etc and noise did not dissapear, so saturday morning headed up to my local exhaust shop who also confirmed that the leak was coming from the manifold. They advised that the leak was the size of a pinhole but obviously needed welding. I was quoted about $250 for them to pull the turbo/manifold off, weld it and then put it back on (this was mates rates). I was also told it would cost between $20 - $60 if I was to pull everything off and just give them the manifold.

So with this information went home and had a bit of a think about what I wanted to do. I called up Dann to give him an update as I was meant to be getting the tune done but for obvious reasons was unable to.

I told Dann about the leak and what I was told from the exhaust place about welding it and what they were going to charge.

Now this is the point I am trying to stress here:

Dann immediately said that he would come from Newcastle to my place in Sydney to do the weld, he said to me and I quote "I built the kit and I want to guarantee it, I feel like sh*t and want to fix this for you"

I honestly did not expect this, for Dann to come all the way from Newcastle to weld up something that would only take 10 minutes for a shop to do shows exactly what type of person he is. I mean you tell me who would offer to come from Newcastle to Sydney just to do a weld, what shop would do that??

So we organised this to happen Sunday afternoon, Dann called me and left his place at about 2. About 2.5 hours later Dann arrived at my place and we got into it...(When I say we, I was pretty much watching lol)

Dann had the turbo, manifold, lines etc all pulled off in 35 mins to be exact. After a quick look at the manifold we couldnt see anything visible but Dann prepared it for welding, setup his gas etc and we were set to go.

As Dann was about to begin he realised (sorry Dann but had to tell everyone :D ) that he forgot his welding mask up at his place. After a few valiant efforts of trying to weld with his eyes shut we new that the welding mask was needed to complete the job.

Dann without hesitation said he will go back up to his place to grab the mask and come back down so that he can finish the job seeing I needed the car for work the next morning. I felt so bad and told Dann that maybe we should just bolt it back up and reschedule but he wouldnt have any off it.

Dann jumped in the car and headed back up to his place, about 4 hours later Dann came back with the welding mask and got to work. All up it took about an hour and the car was back up and running with no more exhaust leak.

The point of this post is just so that I can let people know what type of person Dann is, he is genuinely one of the nice guys and absolutely honest in every way. I have no hesitation in recommending him to anybody looking at wanting a turbo kit etc as he knows his sh*t and guarantees his work. Can anybody tell me which shop would go to the lengths that Dann did to guarantee his work and have a happy customer.

So once again Dann, thanks so much for coming out last night and fixing up the pinhole - seriously appreciate it.

Dann, you could have dropped past my place and picked up whatever you needed, you could have even used my welder, alternatively I would have done it for you just needed him to drop by with the manifold save you driving down..

No problems Joe.

Thanks Suli,
I appreciate it. However it was late at night and my stuffup, so I fixed it.

I knew it had a leak when we fitted it at mine when we first drove it, I suspected exhaust flange as we had reused the factory gasket.
It was a pinhole leak at the turbo flange in a spot you couldnt see, that just must have had a bit of slag or something over the pinhole so when I tested it for leaks off the car it was good but as soon as it got 800c exhaust explosions on it it unblocked. It was a fricking 3 minute weld job in the end.
Cant believe I forgot my mask.
Whatever, these things can happen.

Heres the answer.

Ignore the paint, I rubbed it off with thinners and redid it as you can see in the photos in the engine bay.

Knocked it up this arvo for one of the blokes at work.

But it looks pretty damn subtle right?

Well done Pham.

Its 3" mandrel bent.
Sounds great. Removed the lower airbox resonator and ran a 3" pipe out through the (3"- Perfect!) foglight hole.

That's my sort of mod - close as possible to factory presentation, retains functionality and doesn't impact reliability.

Get him to hit it with VHT crinkle paint and you'd be flat out picking it.
When results speak for themselves - don't interrupt.
