Bingo. A tune from scratch will take a long time and many revisits, all at a very high $ per hour rate.

But who has to tune from scratch?. Megasquirt gives you VE table calculated on your HP

There are so many spark table around for anything. Turbo, 9K rpm Screamer , you name it.

I'm sure its like that for most ECU's

If you have the time do an ECU programming course. Might be worth the racers time. cost is $700 USD

doing the spark table &VE table is the easy bit. AFR isn't much different especially on a Dyno.
the thing which is difficult & time consuming is the little shitty things like cod start, Idle . & so on.

Tuners will treat a new car as if done from scratch. You will get charged for a full tune initially and then an hourly rate for touch ups (over $100 per hour).

OK fair enough but that's a totally different things. They are just covering their backside. I'm not suggesting they should not charge the money I'm just saying its a quick process t get a basemap spark & VE table if you start from 0

its also a good idea not to try to road tune a race car or any car with mad amounts of HP. your license will not last long. for someone like me its better to invest in a few tanks of petrol & get shite;loads of data, analyze it & become intimate with a local freeway with self tune,

Had the privilege of another "post tune" drive of Daffy's beast on the weekend. Insert all sorts of crazy superlatives here about how fantastically fast and smooth this thing is - words really don't do it justice. So I'll shut up, post pictures, and let Daffy narrate :)

curious what the gearbox is like,

apart from its strength, whats the gear changing like, I sat in a Commodore V8 recently just drooling. This one was a manual as well.....OMG I was having a moment. Big HP, big sound. OMG!!!!! a surge of dopamine followed immediately.....
but then ......
manual gearbox as limp as a dead fish.

serious turn off....
I was so disappointed. Total deal breaker

Stantheman - it is a BMW Getrag ZF 6 speed :) No worries about gearbox feel.
