Very neat install, but one question, that hardline from the waterpump, why not make one complete piece running from the block to the radiator and have just two hoses connecting instead of three?

This car has A/C, unlike mine which DOES have a 1 piece lower rad pipe.

With the aircon the stock routing is the only way it will fit, and you would need it to be hard tied to the chassis as the stock metal pipe does. At this point its easier to leave the stock than to re engineer it and essentially leave it the same design.

Here's a quick teaser... Just need to weld the flanges and its done. Im waiting on some new tig stuff before I weld the 4-1 collectors and start some spagetti business.

Now....

Where have I seen THAT design before....

it sucks because its a great design and an obvious one, but Tim made it first so its his design hahaha.

Thats the pipe that i got you?

How many hours so far?

How will you form the round pipe to match the oval flange holes, or is that a 1.8 manifold and you are using the SLS flange?

haha yah its tim's design but im using 1.25 that you supplied instead of the 1.5 he uses. Reason I went with the smaller dia pipe is we are planning to strap a large frame turbo so should help with spoolage. I see alot of very quick evos and stuff running 1.25" pipe on their 2L motors. Powertune's internally stock evo has a 1.25" runner mani also it runs 10's so i think it flows plenty.

I wouldn't be able to tell you how many hours, I sort of do a bit here and there, time permitting. But the first attempt, I screwed up the merge angle and had to start again. If I was to do it again though, Id do it much quicker. I have one of Tim's manifolds on my car, hoping to gather some data once this mani is done.

Yes SLS flange, its already machined to accept the 1.25 pipe so it will transition nicely.

So you have one first hand to copy from. Nice.

What tools do you have?

I see a few magnetic holders and angle finders which is nice.

Linisher and bench grinder?

Disk sander?

Close up photos of your welds? :P

HAHA, Im really enjoying this now, I could chat all night about this stuff haha.

Oh and how much was the SLS flange landed?
Im about to need one for a new build that has a goal of "neat, engineered, and smashes SPs", haha.

Yah I use the angle finder to cut my merger collectors,

Linisher, horizontal bandsaw, die grinder and just the usual tools. I have this little magnetic holder, saw it on the welding tips and tricks vid, i think its called a stongman or stronghold its the best, makes life so much easier when lining things up.

Yah sure here is a close-up. My start stops arn't the prettiest as im still using a sledge hammer of a torch with no foot control, so I cant regulate heat or back of near the end of the weld, I just dab extra at the end to avoid craters.

Hey Dann,

I think i paid about $45 shipping for the 2 x 1.8L head flanges and 1 x t2 inlet flange...

I have a whole heap of flanges coming, the reason I havent got back to you is I cant do my final costing until its landed. Will keep you posted on this though.

btw,

what torch setup do you have? Are you using a gas lens at all? I just ordered a smaller torch with a large dia gas lens kit(stubby) and a #12 cup for stainless stuff, see how that goes.

I have a gas lens and used it for the manifold only.

I havnt yet welded stainless steampipe we will see how it goes when I buy some.

But honestly I don't encourage anyone to go stainless, its easy as hell to weld but its double the price.

For most applications I personally would prefer ceramic coated mild over stainless.

I need more tools.

I want a linisher and grinder and disk sander and more air tools.
Unfortunately where I live live the garage floods when it rains and its impossible to keep it clean cos mud gets everywhere.

Sounds like you could use the more useful and advanted tools of all. post hole shovel, Mattock, sandbags. :P

I'm sure with those you would be able to significantly reduce your flooding problems with some drainage and building the entry to the garage up a bit.
