The gold chain is Joe's haha.
The radiator looked like an ASI. Ebay one.
Unmodified.

Re: NitroDann's Long Awaited Garage Thread
Looks good Dann, well done. The room that manifold leaves for a huge dump pipe craps all over the AVO stuff I have on the race car. Any plans for a couple of brackets to support the top turbo oil feed? Vibration and heat off the turbo might be not be kind to it if left unsupported over that distance?

Re: NitroDann's Long Awaited Garage Thread
Good question.
I recommended joe Get some heat reflecting tape, and use it on every thing near the turbo, the oil feed mightnt be a bad idea.
However it is infact identical to brake fluid hose, the exact type that runs unsopported for over a metre under some cars and is in every engine bay. Not to mention how tough it has to be to make sure no one ever has a brake failure. I believe that no modifications will be necessary.
Have a look at a factory turbo car. The span is only 30 odd centimetres on this feed.

Re: NitroDann's Long Awaited Garage Thread
I intend to get started on another project very soon.
I have had a few people PM me regarding builds for them, so Im waiting for them to confirm or deny, if I dont get anyone in the next week or so confirm i will start a new project just for fun.
i have a turbo good for about 150rwhp choked to the max, and intend to go crazy and build a sidewinder style manifold, mounting the turbo in line with the front of the engine and turned 45 degrees, it will feed DIRECTLY into an intercooler, utilizing a full V Mount intercooler/radiator setup. So there will be just one silicone joiner from turbo to cooler, and from cooler to throttle body.
I will complete it with a full 2.5" exhaust and probably included a reroute.
The intent is for a super streetable setup, with an even crazier low rpm boost threshold, it should be spooling -hard- by 2000rpm.
Ideal for someone who wants a supercharger feel and power output but would prefer the efficiency and flexibility of a turbo setup.

Nice work dann, love seeing DIY setups. Did you by any chance learn the pipe reduction trick from the Ron covell tubing dvd?

Hey guys the radiator is a cooling pro picked up from Just Jap, I assume it is the same as the ASI branded ones.

Re: NitroDann's Long Awaited Garage Thread
Nice work on shrinking those cooler pipes down - Smooth routing by the looks of it too
Big dump is BIG!
Couple of Qs:
What paint/powder did you use on the exhaust? As in what brand/style.
What material is the hotside cooler pipe made from?
Is the heater connected? It appears he made a point of keeping air con, but may have decided to sacrifice the heater?
How is the water pipe (the one with the fiddly o-ring) fastened? I'm assuming it's more than simply the o-ring, but it looks like it's cut short so it unlikely uses the stock mount on one of the bottom exhasust studs?
As far as budget builds go - you'd have to be pretty picky to not be happy with this.

Re: NitroDann's Long Awaited Garage Thread
Its VHT matte black exhaust paint.
The hotside piping is mild steel. Painted inside and out. With caliper paint.
The heater was never connected, If he had one in the first place Id have used brass T pieces to feed the turbo off them.
The water pipe doesnt have a bracket, You are pointing out it should be supported to help with the O rings service life? I hadnt considered it. What would you suggest Joe does next time he has the turbo off?
Hose clamp to secure it?
Thanks for making the suggestion. I hadnt considered the long term service life of the O ring.
Yes. Huge dump pipe is huge. Haha.

Re: NitroDann's Long Awaited Garage Thread
No recommendation on the O ring, I just had endless trouble with them at one stage and wondered if you found the same. I never considered the possibility it could do without secondary support, all I recommend is replacing the O ring everytime anyone is in there. I hate the idea of an expensive failure due to a cheap part.
Did you get your matte VHT locally? I can never find it and hate shiney stuff and waiting...
Need to organise a local night/drive sometime. It seems I'm horrible at getting to weekend ones.

Re: NitroDann's Long Awaited Garage Thread
Fair enough. It was actually fine and quite pliable when I was in there. Maybe a big hose clamp around the small pipe and the larger one to hold the small one securely.
It was purchased at repco hamilton by memory. The matte vht that is.
