Re: Stu's NA6/SE
It's been a while, but getting there. Dann and I are hopeful that things can all come together on the week beginning 15 April. I will be conveniently nearby for the week, so two birds with one stone. I have run into a pickle, however, trying to figure out whether I can drive the damn thing home. I'm hoping for people's thoughts/experiences.
So the situation is thus: it IS registered, but modified and NOT certified. It will have had a brake and emission test done and hopefully the VASS engineer will be able to see them and give a preliminary thumbs up (but no blue slip). I thought about getting a UVP - getting an engineering cert is one reason they can be issued. VicRoads won't issue me one because the trip starts in NSW. RMS won't issue me one because the vehicle is, well, registered. Both NSW and Vic allow vehicles which have been issued a defect notice to be dríven for the purpose of clearing the defect. It hasn't been defected.
NSW rules say that I can drive a modified vehicle for the purpose of obtaining a compliance certificate by the most direct and convenient route. Now that's exactly what I'm planning on doing. But it's a long route.
So if I have on board my paperwork for VicRoads, and my brake and emissions test results, and pack the most polite "good morning officer", is there anything else you can think of to be sure I get back happily?

Re: Stu's NA6/SE
Haha yeah that's my first plan of attack. I'm not planning to do anything stupid, and I'm certainly going to avoid asking to get pulled over.
This is all backup in the event that I do get stopped. The chances are pretty slim but I'd rather have everything sorted so that in the event I do, I'm covered.

Re: Stu's NA6/SE
I drove from Melbourne to Brisbane without licence plates when I picked up my SE from the previous owner, and didn't even get looked at by the boys in blue. I did have a waiver to allow me to drive it, nothing actually illegal, but they wouldn't know that unless they talked to me. I think you'll be fine.

Re: Stu's NA6/SE
Well, it's been a while. I think by now Dann's choice to round up his business is fairly common knowledge.
Despite this, Dann was keen to finish up his ongoing projects, my car among them. Yesterday, it ran (badly) for the first time in roughly 12 months. A few niggles Dann has had to sort out, unsurprising given I was largely responsible for putting it together...
All oil and water lines complete. Intake and exhaust sorted. Oil cooler installed. New clutch in. Tuning over the next few days. Then, all being well and no dramas, it will start a long drive home

Re: Stu's NA6/SE
Boost control MAC valve not doing what it should today. Was either wide open wastegate or ALLOFIT boost.
Dann said got to 240whp on wastegate pressure and hopefully the solution will be something simple and tuning can be completed tomorrow

It's alive.
290 (near enough...) WHP at basically 7,500 RPM
Will pick it up this weekend and then it'll.... sit still while I arrange the engineering cert!
Those of you who have waited no doubt know exactly how I feel right now. Can't wait until Friday evening (although it'll be a damn early Saturday morning...)

Re: Stu's NA6/SE
I assume it will need emissions testing? What have you arranged for that (supply a NSW test due to no one doing it in Vic)?

Re: Stu's NA6/SE
On the way home!
About 700kms to do tomorrow.
Car has run flawlessly, rides nicely (honestly more comfortable than expected) and is just completely effortless power. It's something else. I reckon I've used about 30% of what it has to offer. It's going to take some time for me to work up to really pushing it.
Guards need a proper roll - Dann helped me get the edges just out of the way (an "old school" guard roll with a piece of pipe and reverse gear) so I didn't chew up the tyres or mangle the bodywork too badly on the way home
Mark - re the IQ3 - is there a way to pull the data off the SD card without removing the SD card? i.e. can you download just via the communication cable?

Re: Stu's NA6/SE
Good work Stu!
Bad news though, the only way to get the data is by removing that frigging little card.
I thought when I had Haltech repair the slot (I damaged it inserting or removing the card) I would get them to build a better solution, but time was against me and I didn't push the issue. If there is such a thing as a cable with a card thing at one end and a USB or even a full size card at the other, you would have a more useable and reliable system than that card.
Actually ... now that my brain is in gear, there is a wireless card (ie WiFi) (designed for cameras?) that goes in the slot, but I have only seen it in full size, not the micro. I got one for my camera, I'll see if I can find it and at least find out who makes them, and if they are available in microSD.

I never met a horsepower I didn't like (thanks bwob)

Thank Ed - yeah a cable would be tricky though, it would be running across the dash...
a wifi memory card would be pretty cool but i suspect, exxy and possibly wouldn't agree with the IQ3 in any event...
