Oh man, that sucks.
Glad you are ok though.
I enjoyed reading your build up. Looking forward to the restart......

Re: Nev's NB SE
So after just having spent the last half an hour on the phone I discovered that the repairer didn't know anything about the car and the towing company had received no advice.....
On to the insurance company and they had the car listed as driveable!... after organising the tow for me.....
Should be all sorted now and the car will hopefully be delivered this afternoon, just in time for the long weekend.
On a positive note, I had a good chat to Mick at Hume Smash Repairs and was very impressed, I'm confident my baby is in good hands and will get the attention she deserves.

A panel shop is not what you need. I think Hume would truck it straight to their suspension guys to do the repair. Hume would arrange to replace/repair your wheels (they'd even send that to their wheel restorers).

Actually Hume do all the mechanicals in house (which is good as they're MX5 specialists) and I'd still want it on the jig to make sure there's no chassis issues too.

Wheels? Looks at this stage that all 4 will need attention but I'll head over on Tuesday when they reopen for further discussions on what needs to be done.....
The biggest issue is likely to be parts as Mazda are unlikely to have what is required so will have to wait until things are shipped from Japan which might take a while.

Re: Nev's NB SE
Have you considered replacing the OEM control arms with aftermarket tubular ones?
http://www.v8roadsters.com/miata-tubular-control-arms-s/96.htm and http://www.miataroadster.com/v8_roadsters/v8_roadsters_control_arms/g-67731.aspx make these for the V8 conversion. they're quite expensive but:
"V8 Roadsters tubular control arms are lighter and stronger than the factory arms.
Front upper arms include V8 Roadsters exclusive rebuildable and adjustable ball joints.
The lower arms are designed with additional camber bolts allowing an extra 2° of positive or negative camber front and rear.
Arms are built from DOM tubing using both MIG and TIG welding.
Supplied with 95A durometer urethane bushings proprietary to V8 Roadsters arms.
Shed 3 pounds per corner front and rear."

Re: Nev's NB SE
Well what gets replaced, and with what, is largely out of my hands and between the insurance company and repairer.....
Those would be an interesting addition to your exocet though Lokiel. In theme with the rest of the framework.

That's good that Hume do everything themselves (I didn't know they are MX5 specialists).

Re: Nev's NB SE
Went to visit my baby in hospital today......
She's still in triage waiting to head in for assessment but there's actually quite a bit of damage there for such a slow impact.
Hopefully, either later today or tomorrow morning, they'll get her up on the operating table for a comprehensive examination and see exactly what surgery is required....
At this stage it looks like;
- 1 wheel to be replaced, the other 3 to repair
- at least 3 if not all 4 tyres to be replaced (sidewall damage)
- most of the rear end suspension (shocks are ok though)
- possibly some of the front end too, at very least driver's side wheel bearing
- small amount of panel damage around driver's rear wheel arch
- whatever else they find, diff housing if required?
Dr Mick is confident she'll pull through, we just need to do a full assessment then get the health fund to cough up the funds.
Unfortunately it's going to be slow rehab process as a lot of the specialist equipment will have to shipped from Japan, looking at it being at least a month, probably longer until she's back on her feet....

Just as your body is finishing healing, your hobby breaks!
Well, back to work with you so you! Time to gather funds and plan the next stage once she's returned to you.

Ouch mate, hopefully it's just bits that needs replacing and no serious damage.
I'm always very hesitant to drive in or just after rain now. Iv been caught out big twice, luckily I was able to grab it and put it straight. Never a good feeling when it's unintentional!
Even worse feeling when your wife then turns on you with rage lol

Re: Nev's NB SE
The hardest part is the waiting while they do the assessment and decide her fate......
