That's awesome Bryan,... Congrats!
I meant to come down to EC to check out the whole supersprint thing, but forgot to put in my calendar and got overtaken by home and familial things.. oh well.. will try and catch up with you on the next round.
Wasn't sure if you were going ahead with the supersprints after the repair bill on the 135.. hope that's getting sorted out reasonably painlessly?

Re: Guran's NA6 "Little Reddy"
Finished with a 1:59.81 on the last run of the day. Woo hoo!
http://www.natsoft.com.au/cgi-bin/resul ... 11.ARDC.S1
It was a very eventful day with a couple of MX-5s rubbing tyre walls (superficial damage only), another MX-5 developing engine trouble (SNC crank wobble), and a Fiesta XR4 hitting the concrete wall after losing it on turn 1. Everyone was relieved to hear that Paul was OK and was taken to hospital for tests. His car is a write-off!

Just read your thread. Very well written. Oh and the sub 2min. Well done. Lets see any other stock 1600s(any car) run that time.

Re: Guran's NA6 "Little Reddy"
Just went through my emails and saw the Supersprint results.
Fantastic job Bryan to set a new class record with a sub 2:00.00 and then back it up with other sub 2:00.00 times to prove it wasn't a fluke or poor timing.
I also spotted that Ralph Tompson is now very near to my best time around the Creek which is fantastic as it brings some NC competition into the championship and club events.
Again fantastic job Bryan!!!

Re: Guran's NA6 "Little Reddy"
Thanks guys. It was a great result and I'm thrilled to have finally cracked the two minute barrier. Have to admit that it was at least partially due to the resurfacing of turn 1. I was doing a minimum of 165km/hr through there whereas previously I was barely hanging on at 161km/hr. There's much more grip through turn 1 now, and it's less bumpy, so it's probably worth at least half a second to a second per lap. Other corners have also been resurfaced and seem to have more grip in them (2, 5 and 12). Everyone was posting PBs and most class records were smashed. BUT, they're all records and no-one is going to turn them down!

22nd May 2011
NSW Supersprint Round 2 - Eastern Creek
Another ARDC round at Eastern Creek, with a forecast of cool conditions and chance of rain in the afternoon. The rain didn't arrive until way after the event finished, which was just perfect. The temperature started at 12C at 9am, rising to 22C at 3pm with moderate winds from the NNE arriving at lunchtime but easing by 4pm. There were 97 drivers entered for the event.
There weren't too many starters in the Blue group so we were tacked onto the end of the faster Yellow group for Run Group 5, which included some full-on race cars! I was second-last out in the first run (with Peter Price behind me), and was following Paul Bower's XR4. Paul was running in some new tyres and managed to spin off at turn 3 of the warm-up! We kept following him around and ignored his invitation to pass. As Paul's pace picked up, I did a 2:00.905 on the second lap and then ... finally ... cracked the two minute barrier with a 1:59.995 on the third lap. I was just a little bit pleased about that.
The second run in Group 5 was a bit of a write-off as I was overtaken by Peter Price at the end of the first lap (2:01.392), but then had to back-off to make space from Peter's MX-5, and ease off to allow faster cars past. So the other two laps were 2:01.917 and 2:01.311. Respectable times for sure, but definitely slower than what would have been possible without traffic.
The grid marshall let Peter and I start at the front of the White cars in Group 6 for our third run. That turned out to be a very good thing! Paul Bower managed one lap in Group 5 before he lost it on turn 1 and smashed his XR4 head-on into the concrete wall on the inside of the track . Thankfully he was OK but needed to be extracted via the rear hatch, and was taken to hospital for tests. His car is no doubt a write-off.
After a long delay from Paul's crash, I was eventually sent out for my third run behind Adam Callender's Charade. I left room in the warm-up but caught Adam on the first lap - he waved me past after turn 9 but I had no chance to do that with his quicker straight line pace (2:03.067). I caught Adam again at turn 1 on the second lap, and Adam let me pass on the inside of turn 2 (after giving him the hint with a flash of the lights!). The second lap was compromised (2:03.543), but the third lap was clear. Unfortunately I made mistakes on turns 2 and 7, so could only manage 2:01.183.
My fourth run was going great as I was chasing Drew Rodwell's Charade. First lap was 2:01.812, followed by 2:00.710 and it was looking good for a flyer on the third lap ... until Joel Allsop in his Satria GTI decided to pass me on the inside of turn 1. OK he was clearly faster than me, but that pass compromised turn 2 speed and ruined the third lap for both of us - mine ended with 2:03.453.
The fifth run started with Peter Price spinning off at turn 5 in front of me and rubbing the tyre wall on the first lap (no damage done). I had a clear run after that and ended with times of 2:00.598 and 2:00.501. It was starting to look like that 1:59.995 was going to be it for the day.
By 3:30pm, everyone was packing up or had already left, but I thought I'd head down to the marshalling area in the hope of squeezing into the final run. Lucky I did! There was probably only a dozen cars in that run and with the absence of traffic, I started with a 2:01.806 and then did a really clean second lap to clock 1:59.813! Another new PB! The last lap was going just as well until I mucked up turns 5 and 7 to finish with 2:00.162.
So it was a really successful day. My time of 1:59.813 was a new PB, my first ever sub-two-minute lap at Eastern Creek. It was also quicker than the 2:00.0 I did in my modified and S-spec-shod MINI Cooper S on 22 Jul 2008. And it was a new Class 1A record for NSW Supersprints. I suspect the grin on my face was visible from space!
Natsoft Results
I finished the day 4th in Type 1 behind Saba Hanania's C63 AMG (1:54.323), Stewart Temesvary's NC (1:56.236), and Paul Bower's expired XR4 (1:57.336). I was also first in Class 1A ahead of John Mansell's Pulsar (2:04.927). Fastest MX-5 was Ralph Thompson's NC with a very impressive 1:54.669. Ralph has been improving rapidly, after a 2:00.164 at Round 1, and 1:58.348 at Round 2 and will be tough competition for Phil Ashton in future.
After Round 4, NSWRRC (472) have jumped into the lead of the club championship. The MX-5 Club of NSW (459) are second, and ARDC (449) third. We were missing about half a dozen of our regulars this round, and that showed in the pointscore. The next round is at Wakefield Park on 19th June, and will be run by the Mini Club.

Wow, Paul Bower is a well-known member of the MG Car Club up here. Sad to hear about the accident, but very glad to hear that he's okay.

Ouch indeed. Looks like the crumple zone did its job though.
