dont be man im getting that middle replaced with a brand new part for $21 so its not that expensive, plus this car spent its last 7 years living next to the beach in tas. So im guessing its not as bad on other cars.

Update!!

so tried going down to clark rubber today to get some more of the inserts but they are out of stock and the next closes is 30min away so just gonna wait till they are restocked, apparently 5-11 business days. so thats on hold for a while. But when down to mx5 mania today and finally got the rain rail for the new soft top, so hopefully that will be done soon, will make an update on that when i do it.

but for now i finally go my JDM sun visors

were a bit rusty on the little metal bit so i did a bit of work getting them back to scratch. i ended up taking the ones on the aus visors and gave them a bit of a scrub with fine steel wool and some wd-40 and they came out great. love these visors on my old mx5 i took the visors off because it would always get in the way and was just annoying. you dont have to move them to put the soft top down and are useful when the sun is in your eyes opposed to nothing at all haha

So today finally got the new soft top on

installed the new rain rail plus transferred some parts from my old soft top and it bolted right up. so happy with the way it turned out and really keen to get it on the road again.

started off getting the soft top without a rain rail so i when down to mx5 mania and got a new one. they supplied me with these plastic rivets that worked really well i would definitely recommend them.
put them through all the holes placed the retaining clip on and cut the extra bit off. and the rain rail was on. also came with little foam cut outs that go around the rain rail threads on the car. was very pleased with the quality of these parts.

Now that i got the rain rail on i transferred some bits from my old top, the soft top mounts and these little bit, they were a lot better condition on my old top so i swapped them over.

after that i got to the car and started to the little foam things on the studs that was supplied but mx5 mania. looks great and i think adds to the quality and life span of the top

next i placed the top in the closed position and mounted up the rain rail, did it in the order that was recommend on this post on miata.net http://www.miata.net/garage/rainrail.html

went on great and i continued to bolt on the soft tops mounts and tested to top.

The mx5 starting to look like a car again. So happy i cant wait too get it rego'ed and on the roads.

last thing i did with the soft top today was to see if there was any leaks and so far no, it handle water and directed it to the drains no problem.

while i was doing all this i also gave my exhaust heat shield a little freshen up as well, sanded down and gave it a few coats in HT paint. looks factory new.

Update

One of my good mates had got a mx5 recently , 2001 Green NB8B, one of the cleanest ones ive seen. low kms good service history and a very straight car.
He got it for a great price for what it is.

Any way, i loved his wheels that came on his car and decided to buy them off him as he didnt really like them. there are a set of genuine Enki RPF1s, with ok tyres. He got some nice Bronze wheels which suit his car really well, all he needs now is a tan roof and he'll be sweet ahaha.

Im waiting on a few parts to continue but should be here soon. gonna do a massive clean up on it as i can move it around now. still have my restored stock wheels but im not sure what im gonna do with them.

I like those plastic rivets for the rain rail. Definitely a more straightforward option than the pop-rivet/ washer route.

Your attention to detail is impressive. There's nothing that irks me more than putting back a dirty part, even if it's not seen in day to day use. Keep up the good work!

Thanks mate, yea I'm just like you. If it's dirty it needs to cleaned and if it's damaged it needs to be repaired for me to be happy. I'm very OCD like that ahah

OK so today was a good day, Put on the wheels and they look awesome. Took the car down the street and back and it feels SO much better then before, suspension was tight and the brakes were just amazing. It stopped with precision and very responsive. Didnt get to test it fully tho as the car had no seats and interior was half apart. (only took it up and down my cul de sac).

SE suspension sits i think at a Great position for me i could go a little lower but as you can see my driveway is a little step and this is gonna be a everyday spirited driver , it sits at the same hight as a standerd NB, just looks higher then on, i guess its just the different body that makes it look different. But we measured them and they sit at the same height.

Gave the car a little was as well as it was dirty as hell, there are a few spots what need touch up and re-paint but overall very good condition . really happy with how the car is turning out once these last few parts come in i should be able to put it back together and get it rego'ed, mods will still be coming.

If anyone Knows a good write up to get the rear heated glass to work, would really appreciate the link

First i decided to give the wheels a good wash, they had alot of brake dust build up, came out look brand new, wheels have a little rash on them but i didnt mind at all, its not bad and i cant really complain at the price i got them for.

Mounted them up to the car mad sure to use copper grease where i could so the wouldnt seize in place, ive worked on to many cars i would have to hit them off. not gonna let that happen to mine. As i was mounting them up i found the lug nuts to be to big so i when out and got some new ones, the old ones fit but where to big to get a socket in

Got this set for a good price and they match my brakes (12mm x 1.5)

Got the wheels on and put the car down to see how she sits, I think its a good hight, love the way it looks still need to put the lip on and rear bar but i think she looks awesome.

This is it settled in a bit and i think looks amazing, The SE bilsteins really worked well and where a easy and great performance mod for cheap.

I love the way the car looks with the rear bar removed and these wheels i think it looks aggressive as hell.

here are the (not so great) pics for the two mx5 next to each other. i should have done this on a flat surface but couldnt as theres not that much space and the car has no rego so cant take it anywhere flat.

but as you can see they are very similar in height. Front sits the same, the rear sits a little bit higher.

Next update i should have my rear bar back on and give it another clean, hopeful start to get my interior back together, might hold off a bit till i get wire run for the rear glass. and also looking into dying the carpets and seats. Should have the rest of the parts arriving soon for engine timing and and other little bits and pieces. might do the transmission oil as well tomorrow.

Also looking into window tint, anyone recommend what percentage i should get?

Loving the way she is coming along and i think will make an awesome car when im done with it. More mods and things to come stay tuned.
