Thanks re99ie. The temptation is always there to modify and its not made any easier when replacing with OEM as its usually 2-4 times more expensive!

hahaha Good thing the previous owners of my car kept most of the OEM parts. OEM new will be very expensive but try mx5parts.co.uk as well as I found them ok when it comes to OEM stuff.

Took a couple of days off work which allowed me to run a few errands and get some stuff done.

Got the upper shift boot from Mania. Even for a car that's had a very good life the boot had seen better days. Gear shift feels more positive and there's less heat getting into the cabin on long drives.


Also got the drivers seat reupholstered. I looks pretty much like new and feels it too with the new base. Below is a pic of the old one. A tear in the bolster is the cause for the seat looking (and feeling) tired. Hit both the seats with Maguires Quick Out. Rinsed the towel out in a bucket of water and water turned black. The seats looks clean and the car's lost its old car smell.


Got these courtesy of RSpeed and their Black Friday Sale. Cant wait to have them installed. Will be getting the Mania front and rear brace done at the same time. Just need to figure out when Mania have a free Saturday!

Not all that much has changed on the car since the last update, however. i recently got the FCM shock mount kit, ordered it the week before Christmas and it arrived just after the new year. Awesome. The next step is to get time to have the shocks installed along with the NB brace i have and mania front and rear braces.

I guess the revised intent is to keep it "factory", with few exceptions being stuff like the bumpstops etc. the FCM top mounts are modified NB if I'm not mistaken and this stuff is just superior to OEM without taking away from the OEM look

The red cover is a genuine Mazda part from a limited edition model.

Yeah, no hurt intended. I'm much the same, using other MX5 parts to improve the old but keeping the parts to turn it back if ever it's needed!

Visited Mania today and got some goodies installed.

- NA (factory)Bilstein shocks
- Fat Cat Motorsport Shock mounts and Bump Stops
- Front and Rear lower chassis braces
- NB OEM tower brace

Its early days but the ride is much improved and feels like a modern car which is great as ive read comments previously describing NA Bilstein's giving a harsh ride.
Next up, wheel alignment.

Looking forward to the next cruise!

Shift boot was new from Mx5 mania approx $40 -

Alarm was around $350 but the total cost was $600 which included a microwave sensor, remote boot release and central locking. Supplied and installed by Security in Motion.

Ordered and finally got around to performing the shifter refurb. Very happy with the results and the weather over the weekend allowed me to really enjoy the new shift action.

Condition of the original lower shift boot.


Upper wave washer was flattened and the lower bushing fell off the shifter with zero effort due to a crack.


Old parts Vs New parts. The lower bushing was to be replaced by the one sold by Rev9


Shifter cleaned, buffed and rebuilt


Top down view of the shift turret. Low on oil and it was black. The second ring bushing and wave washer is there but hidden in the sludge!


Overall a very worthwhile job and highly recommended. It took me 2 hours but that was me taking my time. I sucked out the sludge with a Syringe and replaced with 90cc's of fresh GB oil before sucking it out again, repeating about 5 times until the oil in the turret was clean and clear.

Good work on the shifter boots too. I had a very, very cold drive home from Sydney to Melbourne once when mine were pretty much completely disintegrated. The cold wind around Yass at 3am in winter just came straight up through there.
