Re: ASE05 2
Foamectomy - done!
Gained at least 1 inch head room. Shaved the foam from the bottom to keep the leather happy. The leather covers/foam are different to the OZ spec cars I'm sure. US cars look to have more padding in them. I'll be doing the back when I rip the drivers seat apart again to replace the foam inserts with new stuff. 44K Miles have taken there toll on the foam.
License plate lamps - now working!
After receiving a warning from the plod last week for having no front plate, it occurred to me that I hadn't actually checked to see if all the other lights/blinkers etc. were working. Good thing I checked, license plates lights out, both of 'em. The 'tard that did the respray didn't plug them back in but managed to get overspray on the lenses like they were never touched??
Front Plate Bracket - DIY, all day effort, work of art in alloy L shapes and flat. Total cost - $10.95 including tax Pretty chuffed with how it turned out but didn't take pics. I didn't want to go the ricer look with the offset plate so I had to make my own as the US spec plate holder is 1. stupid expensive for what it is, 2. freakin' ugly!
Tried to fit some leftover bits from TheMissus parts bin. The chrome latches for the soft top are different from NA to NB? Well, at least the ones I have don't fit, they're about 2 to 4mm longer at the back where the little pushy button thing is to release the soft top. There's an hour of my life I won't get back.
So, onto today's adventure. Since I collected the car I haven't actually vaccumed the interior or cleaned it at all. I figured I'd leave it until I had a good bit of time to get into it. I love Thanksgiving .
The poor car in the last owners hands was primarily a track car and the track rims were transported 3 abreast in the boot and 1 in the passenger seat. This certainly took it's toll in the way of small scratches/gouges and general grubbiness of the interior. This topped with the fact that I don't think anyone cleaned her inside since the previous owner collected it from the dealer. The dash was looking more grey than black and so were the seats, the inside of the soft top etc. The pics below do do any justice to the dullness/dust/dirt/grime stains/collections before the clean or the stoopid shineyness/difference post clean. When I shampooed the soft top, the water dripping down was black .
I've cleared the garage to make space for our winter project....the rebuild of the original engine. The plan is to build for 8000rpm redline, GT2860RS turbo and 16lbs + boost. I'll get BEGI to flash the standard ECU to deal with emissions testing and then the Hydra gets plugged back in once I have my sticker saying I'm green

What's that button on the door handle?
I'm guessing that it's a "Lock all doors" button which seems like overkill in a 2-door MX5.

In a land where they have drive-through supermarkets, home-delivery MacDonalds, "The Clapper",.... I'm not surprised.

What's the latest?
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Even in America, Mr Plod still doesn't like you having no front plate.
I notice you have the keyhole to turn off the passenger airbag.

Re: ASE05 2
Hah, forgot to post the big ass response I typed out with the trials and tribulations of late.
In short, SFA to report.
Still getting the $$$ together for the rebuild. The tax man decided he wasn't going to give us a refund this year, instead he needs ~10K from us. So the tax return I was going to use to top off $$$ already saved towards the rebuild didn't show.
Still deciding how nuts I want to go on the rebuild. Basic enough to hold together for the gear I already have or all out. There's something in the back of my head that keeps whispering "Flying Miata V8 conversion". For now, I think I'll just rebuild a stout but not over the top original engine and if after 5 years it looks like we'll be staying longer, the car comes off the road for a LSsomething FM conversion.
The ICS valve decided to die giving the car an annoying oscillating idle. Fixed that by swapping the TB/ICS/TPS over from the original dead engine and.......BAM, back to normal.
She's using oil at the moment. Getting about 600 miles before having to top it up again. I don't think 80000rpm/14.5psi agrees with the standard internals(I rarely rev it beyond 7500rpm but it's done several times a day ).
After experiencing the 5th worst winter on record last year, I decided I'd be prepared and used the 15x8 Rotas as winter rims with 195/55/15's stretched over 'em for the JDM helluflush look for this year . The stretch is noting like I expected (in a good way) and we've had about 3" of snow since October. It's a good thing I was prepared because apparently this is the 4th warmest winter on record I've gotta say, rolling on the 15's on these crap roads has been a revelation. Definitely absorbs the bumps a bit better but snow tyres don't encourage fast driving and give up on any temps above ~ 40 F. The 17's will go back on at the end of March.
Bought a used Thompson remote oil filter kit, yet to fit. Need to find a space to put the Flying Miata washer bottle to make space for the Thompson or just order the Norpro cowl washer bottle.
Just ordered a HID kit for the low beams, they should arrive next week. EVERYONE has aftermarket HID kits here.
About to order the Track Dog Racing splitter and the grill that I had on ASE05
Need to go for a pee
Jules, get on over here, I have beer! But I can't cover your ticket. But I do have beer !
Gonna give her a rinse tomorrow, I'll post up some pics of the 15x8's and the car a bit clean.
Stay tuned

No admiration for ASE05's ride? I'm surprised!
Looking good DK, I think the others may be a little jealous...
I believe you have some side skirts that need painting, will finish off this masterpiece nicely - and apparently it can hold its own against a well respected euro marque, do tell!

Re: ASE05 2
Awwwe, I lubs you to Crap!
Well, the car has now taken me to 6 of 12pts available on my license Got done for "Careless Driving" the other day. $150 owed to the local govt. each year for the next 3 years plus the increase in insurance premium. TheMissus - "Dude, not this sh*t again". Rolling a stop sign and using all 14.5psi around the corner with a lil' sideways action does not win you friends with the cops. Having to correct the wheel in a 25MPH zone whilst spinning the wheels through 2nd gear will usually do that. I have now befriended the local constabulary and I should be OK locally at least(the system here is set up for corruption).
Regarding the Euro run, it was with a Porsche that one of my friends owns. He owns a ~2005 STI, 2012 Lotus and a ~2004 Porsche Turbo 4WD with the 4WD disabled and running ~ 500hp to the wheels. Surprisingly, up to about 100MPH there wasn't much in it. Above 120MPH was another story entirely. I topped out @ 140MPH indicated. The best part was after our lil' run together he had no hesitation saying that trough the twisties he didn't think he could keep up....and he couldn't
MINX, I feel you lubs to.

Re: ASE05 2
Well, after much fun, I've installed the I.L. Motorsports bushings in the front so far.
The http://iscracing.net/miatasuspension.html spherical bearings don't enjoy DD driving ~ 8000miles. The 2 rears on the front LCA had pretty much frozen solid and after a w'end of the car up on stands waiting for replacement LCA's, the old bushings pushed out and the new I.L stuff in it's place. Such a difference in NVH and ride comfort. Now hafta do to do the rears in the next few weeks.
Also, below was a recent mod to ASE05 2
Stoopid bitch in a Toyota Highlander didn't see me next to her when she changed her mind from turning left to right at a T intersection. Still up in the air about doing insurance claim or just getting repaired(her insurance claims it was my fault, figured I'd wait until summer before making a claim anyhow as I'm not sure how good repairs/paint is when done @ ~ 30F).
Also finished the front end FM Wilwood Big Brake kit - hmmmmm, 2 piece 11" rotors but no pics as yet - note to self, don't do whilst drinking and stripping threads on the BBK brake bracket.
Old engine making it's way finally to the rebuilder to machine the bottom end and do the head for solid 8000rpm redline. Slightly larger 2860 turbo on order as well.

Alas, 4WDs, the natural enemy of the MX5
I had a Nissan 4WD reverse into my car while it was parked in a parking bay:
It turned out much cheaper than I expected to fix - hopefully yours will too. If you decide to just pay for it yourself, consider removing the panel yourself and taking it to the shop, it'll save you a fortune in labour to remove and re-fit it.

Yeah, but they'd wanna blend the colour into the bonnet and front door edge to match.
I wonder if carbon fibre front guards are the go? Might actually look silly...
