Ouch, somebody had to add it up, however I never will post the car weight without the driver :)
plohl wrote:1With the squirming under braking, have you looked at your shock settings? Might be getting too much weight transfer to the front.

At the moment there is more rebound in the rear so that the weight transfer from front to back is slowed once braking is almost complete. My logic is so that the front does not unload too quick.

Maybe softer spring rates on the front could be tested?

Yeah... I math haha

You want weight transfer to the back under acceleration, so I don't follow your logic...

You bought adjustable shocks - use them haha. Dial out the extra rebound and take for a drive - see how it brakes - then dial in one or two clicks compression on the front. You have enough data you should be able to compare, but you should feel a difference.

Don't worry about spring rates at the moment. You have a billion other things you can adjust.

plohl

Even being nasty with the drivers weight, the car could still go to Jenny Craig's

The 2F cars are getting down to 980kg with roof off. In 2B trim you should see that easy if not a little less when you tacke it off the road and lose heavy stuff like carpet and sound deadener.

I'm about to get more weight of the new shell now it will be heading home this morning. I will get a rotisserie in the next couple of days and throw it up on that to scrape all the deadener off the bottom and clean it all up and then paint on the KBS/POR15 in white inside and out to rust prevent and seal and then get it ready to spray the outside.

I would expect a weight saving of around 150kg from the standard 1250kg of mine when it is done.

Test drive this afternoon following the corner weighting, splitter adjustment and put the front sway up to hard (from medium) and no squirm under hard braking now!

MattR until I need to it will keep carpet and such:). Is the 980 with or without driver?

Without driver, but just come off the track so all fluids bar a lot of fuel.

Next it works out for both of us, you'll have to have a look at how mine is being prepped, basically starting with bare shell and adding the minimum, compared to starting with a road car and making a race car, which I have done for the last three I have put together.

Well turned 50 today so decided to do an early morning road trip (some people may understand why the stops were done in certain places) .

Left Upper Commera around 0545

Coffee stop at Coomera

Between Mt Tambourine and Beaudesert

Roadvale

Between Roadvale and Kalbar (stopped because the splitter bottomed out)

Kalbar Lutheran Church

Cunningham's Gap

Mutdapilly (friends Appaloosa horse stud)

Then a boring drive back to Upper Commera via Logan Motorway/M1.

All up 300 km and my other half officially hates it! The plus for the drive is the wind/engine noise in the cab made conversation (complaints about my driving) difficult. Passenger not impressed that I was practicing left foot braking going down the other side of Mt Tambourine. However, the use of ear plugs would make the drive more enjoyable and considering that stops were made along the way, 300 km is about the limit without hearing protection. Maybe a set of earmuffs that plug into the intercom maybe the go, however it may look a little silly.

If there are complaints from thebetter half and the road trips are no longer enjoyable, may as well bite the bullet and turn it into a full track only package :D , that way you can get rid of the carpet, sound deadening and other extra weight, oh and the brake booster delete

Happy birthday for yesterday Mark. I went on a similar run on saturday - they're some pretty good roads out that way.
Cheers,
plohl

MattR and Corners - If and when I get defected I will make that decision. Provided I keep my head down and not draw any attention to the car (drive normally) on the public roads I see no reason why I will get defected in the near future.

Plohl, it was very hot on Sunday despite leaving early in the morning. My other hlaf normally likes to drive with the windows down (hates air con) but was wanting the air con yesterday. There was a heap of air circulating in the cabin (roof vent, 2 quarter glass vents as well as the normal vents) but it was just hot air.

Speed freak each time I let the ITB's open my other half just did not get the same expression on her face as I did on mine, The 8,000 rpm in 3rd could have been the reason why she was not smiling...

I have some feedback from Competition Systems (Jenvey supplier) regarding the torque dip at 5,500.

What the dyno graph is showing is a disconnect between the harmonic peak of the inlet system and the operating range of the camshaft.

We normally use Cat Cams from Belgium which tend to go bigger lift/shorter duration. The result is a wider powerband and better top end and they’re not quite as twitchy when it comes to inlet tract length.

By the look of it, the overall length needs to be 320mm from the end of the bell mouth to the inlet valve stem. This number is plus/minus 10mm and should move the torque down enough to fill that gap. I’m guessing you’ve only got 275mm at present as the Jenvey kit is 220mm plus however long the inlet port is. The problem then becomes clearance to the booster.

Note, whilst my cams are Toda 288/10 on both, MX5 Plus did modify them by reducing the base circle and modifying the ramp angles a bit to produce a smoother curve. Hence there is probably more than 10mm of lift.

After speaking with Patrick direct the 2 torque dips, one at 3,000 and the other at 5,500 could either be a cam or trumpet issue (or worse both), however which one is causing what needs to be investigated. Plan is next time it goes on the dyno is to try some different trumpet lengths and see which dip is changed.

MattR will have noticed the 'brake booster' comment and Patrick (Competition System) supports MattR's comments about deleting it! Patrick also added that removing the booster also removes some of the lag in application of the brakes as well as their releasing. So, if the trumpet length yields good results it looks like the brake booster delete could be on the drawing boards. MattR I will never let you be right on this!
