He is hissed off, the engine has to go back to the bloke who built it, he didn't do the necessary machining for the new non-standard rear main bearing oil seal - could have been worse, the reason he rang was another engine he built using the same seal has just ruined a brand new, imported crank, for want of a little machining

So the engine builder called your neighbour and asked him to send it back because he'd realised his mistake? And presumably he's fixing it without charge. Honestly, in today's aftermarket that's a high level of service and integrity.

That's how I understand it. It is a small community, and word of mouth is probably pretty important. That engine is still untouched, never run, relatively simple job to rectify.

The broken one not so much, if the same offer applies - likely got metal shavings all through it, might/probably need a new crank, basically start the rebuild all over again. Costly for someone for sure!

Pain?! PAIN Have you had a car/parts painted recently - it is going to cost me my first-born, unless someone tips him off and he goes into hiding. Really, it is a small sacrifice he should make for his old man, right?

I'm sure there is one somewhere. Better be, I'll need something to look at every 15mins to reassure myself it was all worthwhile ...
