Maybe the bracket was added by MX5 Plus when they re-built the engine - will try and take photos of it tonight because it was quite effective and may be what you're looking for KevGoat.

Essentially it's a piece of galvanised steel, about 100mm long and 20-30mm wide in a shallow spiral (for strength?) that attaches to one side of the U-shaped exhaust clamp and the other to a bolt on the gearbox - strong and very solid which is why I'd like to mimic it..

I originally planned to take a week off work in October, giving me 9 un-interrupted days to get the job done, figuring that would give me plenty of time to do the work and run around accumulating parts. I only ended up getting 3 days off due to workload which screwed things up a bit and there have been more customisations than I expected.

The TSE instructions do briefly mention modifying the shelf and water pipe plus bending the dipstick but I've never seen any photos of the shelf mod needed which is why I've included so many here. I suspect the shelf mod is not mentioned much because it may impact the sales of the TSE manifold (most users, including myself, would prefer NOT to cut the shelf).
I'd like to see the shelf mod needed for the Kraken manifold and EFR6258, if there is one, because that looks like a decent cast manifold too.
Beavis has video installation of his with a Garrett T/C which makes good viewing (like all his other videos).

I'm very happy with the TSE kit, there's plenty of room everywhere now with the radiator hose re-routed out of the way and no P/S.
It has required a lot of customisation, most of which I've been able to do which has saved me a lot of $$$ in labour so I do have to thank you for pushing me to DIYing the install, even though it's taken me much longer to finish.

Jobs remaining:
1. Get new A/C lines made (hopefully can get mobile gut in to do this job)
2. Mate TSE downpipe to NitroDann's 3" exhaust (need to tow car to exhaust shop)
3. Re-tune MS3 (myself initially, then someone who knows more, preferably NitroDann)

We always do this and Lokiels bracket is from me also, (as is that heat sleeve).

- that slight twist to what was originally a flat piece of metal is simple and very effective since it makes it very strong
- I'm going to make a temporary one out of aluminium initially because when the exhaust is made it will likely need to be modified again.

Photo makes it easier to know how and where it fits. Took Dann up on his after he posted above and glad I did now, it looks pretty substantial. Can't believe I forgot all about it after fitting the exhaust!

I didn't get much done on the weekend since I worked on Saturday and Sunday was just too stinking hot to do much besides sitting in front of the A/C and watching recorded TV.

I did take the time to install the rubber seal for the fan I bought from Clark Rubber a few weeks ago - the existing foam I used didn't seem robust enough:

The round part is on the outside of the fan and it's held in place with zip-ties - the rubber should last several years vs months for the foam.

To "more-securely" mount the filter pod, tonight I made a small 3mm aluminium bracket that screws into the hose clamp's bolt and sits on a rubber stopper that mounts through an OEM M6 threaded hole:

- it'll be hidden within a new Cold AIr Box eventually so I don't intend to "pretty it up" any further.

Gina has been booked into Newman Ave Garage in Woolloongabba for the exhaust fitting on Wednesday next week.
I couldn't get anything earlier and being close to Xmas time, most places are fully booked.

Originally I was going to try and get a mobile A/C guy to do the A/C lines first but none will custom-make them on site which is BS IMO because apart from the AN-6 hard lines, the AN-8 and AN-10 lines just involve crimping fittings onto custom-length hoses.

I started generating a spreadsheet of parts I'd need, as well as alternate options for different routing and it started getting expensive so I figure I'll just get the car running and drive it to an A/C shop - it'll probably be around the same price by the time I've wasted money on unused fittings.

This weekend was spent tidying up the car to get the exhaust fitted this week (ie. torquing everything up to spec and putting all undercar bracing back on - that was only done hand-tight since they'll need to take it off again).

Looking at the A/C compressor's AN-8 hard line section, I figured I may be able to bend it enough by hand to clear the intercooler's hotside plumbing:

- yep, cleared it nicely, that's one less A/C line I need to worry about re-making.

Some NA owners have found that the wastegate cannister touches the underside of the hood and the underside bracing needs some persuasion to avoid making contact - not reported on NBs but I thought I'd check. I put a "big gob" of grease on top of the cannister and dropped the hood normally. Opening the hood again revealed that the "big gob" of grease was untouched so it should be OK. I'll need to do this test for the Garage Vary hood too unless it's obvious that it will contact the cannister.

I was also worried that my Carbing 3-point brace may not fit with the EFR6258 and wastegate cannister in place so did a quick test-fit:

- luckily it does!
This will be left off for the exhaust installation since it makes it easier for them to access the downpipe's V-band clamp.

Also tidied up the A/C cannister's wiring, deleting excess split loom and tucked the excess wire into the plastic sheath at the cannister's end - no wire cutting and re-soldering needed which is good because I may need to move the A/C cannister if the A/C guy says so.
FYI: Yes, that's a new cannister - they're supposed to be new if you ever re-gas them.

I just realised that in those last 2 shots, the only visible OEM hardware is the rocker cover, engine block and ABS "octopus" - how did it get to this?

Slippery slope indeed! I don't think you can even claim the engine block as it's been changed internally. :mrgreen: Stock Brake Master Cyl?

The guy didn't seem fussed at all, even when I mentioned that the hotdog may no longer fit - Dann's downpipe is shorter than the TSE one so there's less room under there now.

Hopefully I can start re-tuning this weekend and actually drive the car again!
