Seems I'll need to make an adjustment and move this clutch fluid reservoir nipple out of the way - plan is to cut off, tap and insert a 90 elbow to ensure I clear the new air box.

Any tips on a good place to buy plastic 90 deg elbows - 1/8" NPT with barbs?

Rang a few marine suppliers, but couldn't find anything small enough - but Google saved me and found it online via this Electronics supplier!

Looking good. Are you fabricating an air path as well?

yeah, that silver cardboard is my template - next is to make that out of sheet tin and hopefully fix in the same approx location. Hope that this will be enough to limit hot air from rad and give the fresh/cool air from above/around a chance to be drawn in - all scientifically worked out by my gut so not all that confident !! :|

G, I think you will find the single filter limiting top end. I certainly noticed a difference going back to one from 4.

I wish I could do that, I do not have an artistic bone in my body and more than likely put too much emphasis on understanding the issue before thinking of how to solve it.

However I'm watching to see how you solve the problem :)

I struggle to understand how that can be - the volumetric difference between the single I've got on the box is greater than what 4 could require at the max rpm. Do you have any reason for why you'd think that's not true?

Only that once I put the air box and single filter on I've noticed the car doesn't rev out as strongly.

Could be the airbox restricting I suppose.

Don't quite get what your saying about volumetric difference. Or rather I don't get what your comparing to.

I guess the proof would be in a dyno run or having figures for flow through a oiled foam filter and seeing if the filter has enough surface area to flow the required air at full revs.

Certainly impressed with how quickly you've moved on with the ideas!

I believe our other halfs also know each other.

You would need to measure the pressure drop across the filter.

The issue could then be the size hole the air is being sucked through. What size hole is the opening?

Pressure drop across the filter could be tricky if the mouth of the airbox is already creating a pressure gradient though.

The airbox inlet is 76mm which is almost 1.7 times the individual 45mm TB inlets. Both pipercross and jenvey airboxes are also 76mm so I figured that must be good enough - besides you'd think they would know!

sailaholic - I'd be curious to see detailed pics of the air box you used if it had such a noticeable impact. How big was it and is this the MazdaSpeed official airbox? You'd think it would be properly engineered and positive overall.

PS if you're talking about does Steph know my wife, then yes I believe she does!

I agree if 76mm is used by Jenvey then use it for your design.

It would be good to measure the pressure drop anyway.
