NA6 turbo - 140kw atw - not the most powerful but so much fun :D

I think it's because I let the clutch go for so long. But you're right, they are sensitive creatures!

I've taken him for short rides, the problem is he slides around so much on the leather seat. I put a towel down, but that just slides to the back of the seat. Need to buy a cheap-o seat cover for him to ride on.

Car is at Auto+ today, Exedy folks should be coming by around 3pm, so I won't get her back until tomorrow at the earliest. Also, I was not aware that they had a loan car - it was taken this time, but I might need to enquire about it next time my car is in overnight.

Good news on the clutch. When the clutch is sorted out let me know and we can do a car swap for a short drive. I suggest at the next coffee meet (when we are both there) you can take mine through the police check point and I will take yours, we can swap back just on the other side :)

Further clutch update!

The Exedy rep went by Auto+ yesterday and all agree with my concens/issues. Exedy say that the shudder is a characteristic of the Sports Organic friction disc, due to it's consctruction. Jason explains:

the Sports Organic friction disc does not have a ‘wave’ washer built in behind the friction material. By removing this washer, it increases the torque yield point of the disc due to less movement and a quicker bite. As it also has a higher coefficient of friction, the shudder felt is the disc jumping between on and off. On a button clutch it would just engage or disengage but as its organic is can slip more.

Auto+ were not aware of this when they recommended the clutch. This style of clutch would be suitable if the car was dríven more aggressivly on the regular, a weekend toy or track car, but not so suitable for a daily driver. It's not great to use high revs and a short clutch engagement in stop start traffic :shock: . That said, when I was a bit more "on it" - when conditions would allow - the clutch did feel good and sharp.

So, I was given the option of living with the clutch as is and managing the quirks of it, or swapping out the Sports Organic disc and subing in a standard Organic disc - which Jason feels would put the clutch kit somewhere between the HD kit and the Sports Organic kit, it should be up for the job and be nicer to drive. I've opted to swap the disc to the standard, and should be able to collect the car tomorrow night.

I'm quite impressed and pleased with how this has all been handled, my thanks go out to Auto+, to Jason, Dave and the whole team. I had faith that they would handle my concerns and they've really come through. And now we all know a bit more about Exedy's Sports Organic clutches! :mrgreen:

Nevyn72 I agree, plus it looks like all the people involved learnt something so another bonus.

ManiacLachy good result, notwithstanding the clutch issue I'm still happy to lend you the keys to mine. I hate driving mine in stop/start traffic, the only way is to leave a gap acelerate and then coast can't keep a constant speed below abour 30 kmh... By the way expect about 220 km out of a tank when driving normally and about 80 km if on the track when running E85 in my car.

Good news with the clutch. Atleast you had the right people behind you to work out a solution.

If you have a drive of Marks NA6 you will have an absolute blast, the power and induction noise and response is bloody amazing, probably more so now since I had a drive, sounds like more tweaks and small issues have been worked out.

Yeah, good people make a world of difference. I'm lucky Auto+ is near my home, but I would still make an effort to go to them for mechanical work even if they weren't - great people there!

I have no doubts that Mark's car will be awesome, I just want to present my car in the best possible condition to him. For now, it's as good as it'll get. I'll have to let him have another blast whenever I get the ECU and boost done though.

Right, so the clutch. Jason swapped the disc over on Wednesday afternoon and I picked my car up yesterday after work. New clutch is much nicer for daily driving, it slips nicely without any judder or shudder, I no longer look like a teenager learning to drive while bucking off the line! 8) Engagement feels OEM, the engagement point is back where it belongs - in the middle of the travel and I am very happy with it.

The only thing I miss with this new disc is the crisp engagement of the Sports Organic. It clamped good and hard - which is exactly why it's not a great option for a daily, and why it would judder when slipping. It was a great clutch for driving agressivly. For the times you can drive it like you stole it, it would be great. The rest of the time I'd much rather the clutch I have now.

This weekend I want to install the replacement solenoid and give the old girl a wash! Unfortunately my weekends quickly fill up with "oh, and we'll just do this one other small thing". We'll see what actually gets done :|

Is there much of a price difference between the Sports Organic clutch and the Standard Organic clutch?
