Stuff like this seems to be happening more often these days and worries me every time I park my SE somewhere and walk away. My wife keeps telling me "it's insured" but that's not the point. I try to be philosophical about it, but not easy. Even my sister's VE Commodore had to be resprayed after some lowlife deeply scratched all the panels down one side.

At least you have the skills to fix it BB ... so let's see - new colour scheme while at it????

Awesome thread mate. Sucks about them a-holes who poured something over your car, hopefully you can buff it out! It doesn't look too bad in the photos. I can't believe some people. I like the side stripes you are running, looks nice. Also the blue stripes on your ex silver one looks nice too.

Keep up the donut entrepreneuring! :D

Cheers,
Craig

the dude

well its hard to really say who is to blame BUT i'd lay it on the car. it should have had the power in hand to get out of the way and avoid the spray  the human involved was just an irresponsibly bustardo

gladiator

it doesn't look too bad from one side and that's on the right where's there is no damage  on the left where its done, the clear coat is a bit of a fu///in mess. whatever hit it is just attaching the clear coat at a slow pace.

if it was all over the car I could and least say - I stuffed up on the job  BUT its impossible to do a full spray rotation and just get one complete bad side - especially when it wasn't there on the cut

kevgoat

well I put about 100 hours into this and if anything I am lucky the colour "WHITE" never left the thought bank  this incident could be the open door to that start up, not sure yet

I know once that move is made -the work starts  I will have to give this idea a bit of thought really. meanwhile if the idea to go WHITE and BRIGHT carried on over at Corey's garage site he's purchase front/ rear faired guards or whatever for an NB - I send an email today to REV9 for a price landed here in oz

If i do a re-spray I might add a bit of extra and might bump up the wheels too, time will tell. after-all once that sandpaper hits the paint - the party is over or just started  and it's a pretty big party to rub out all traces of the RED paint

that's the way i'd do it anyway. wet rub the lot so I can get a better feel on where I am at paint level rather than power sand...but i'm a pro rubber

I could rub the clear off and prime and paint white over it BUT I would then have a few coats underneath it  so I think it would be best to rub back the clear/red and back to the prime.

it might take a few hours longer to do the prep but I have an excellent canvas to work on so there is really no need to get in and totally fu// it up in haste and spend many more hours just to fix the damage.

it's not hard to paint a good body, but it's friggin hard work to repair and paint a bad one

Saw Corey's guards on his thread - should look really good once fitted and painted. You'd definitely need some "tougher" wheels to suit Are you thinking the rear flares as well?

Could it be some sort of reaction in the clearcoat? Something not cleaned right when painting, or something like that?

Pumped guards and wide wheels would be awesome :)

well I decided to get into it and settle down to do a good hand job......had the sandpaper kygel tissues books old school  wrong forum

then I went out to the car 1500 wet rub with warm water sponge block bit of detergent in the water and rub a dub dub you can see that area where earlier the damage was above the door rubbed out

while in the process of rubbing down the side the friggin phone rang and I had to go an make an order for 200 bags of popcorn. I don't like work

i'm not going to rule out the flared guards idea, will wait now for the email from o/s and see a damage report on the $$$

nothing in the clearcoat deep as it sanded out

I won't be going wildflower hunting either  I decided things were a bit down this year, worked out roughly the cost involved in the trip so I ordered a new motorbike instead  didn't even tell the wife  let it be a surprise when we pick it up

out today for a quick trial cut rub, appears all good and can cut it out. earlier photos show the damaged on the clear coat. the 1500 rubbed it out and the mild cut polish did its job. got to go out on a job now so it will have to wait to complete the whole job.

wife also bought to my attention that I was a bit hasty pointing the finger when I left the car parked in the street for a couple of hours. she said what about the 4 or 5 days you left it with the local mechanic who repaired the oil leak in the motor

well I suppose she has a point. they not only repair they also do damage  maybe some-one there might have rubbed some-thing up against it or wiped it over prior to the pickup. anyway it was one or the other  but definately not me

Looking good mate. I'll bet you're relieved it was a relatively easy fix?

I only spent probably 1.5 hours on it but still have the door to go. I was lucky I guess it was sitting on the clear coat. plus the clear is on in a few good layers so can handle a good rub

I was wondering while I was doing it if I should just go ahead and start the complete rub out in my quest to return it to back to white again. so I will probably leave the door for a few days till I decide - if I want to do some work or not!

I was looking up at my NT photo in the family room from last years trip then out at the car and although the red does look good - it doesn't match the car in the photo

so around 3.30pm I trotted off to Super cheap in the Abarth to get a bit of wet/dry and around 4pm....disaster struck!

so it will be a rub down through the clear- colour-primer to the white  this could take a while  old paint looks in good order too. I had to start with 180 wet/dry and score up the clear coat surface and then let the 240 get into it and do the cutting

I really didn't want to go any coarser in the grit as I don't want a totally scored surface as I can go over with this later with 400 w/d

I guess the party is over in one way and just stated in another. I could have handled this a lot better on the rub side in my youth   or sanded it down with a power sander job. but a bit of a risk involved there stuffing it.

while I am out there rubbing away at a COMPLETELY GOOD PAINT JOB it will give me something to think about this new paint job.........artic white again or one of the other fifty shades of white!

Well ... I guess there's a lot of red SE's out there, so going back to white will make it more unusual again. It did look good white
