Re: Lachstock and Four Turbo Charged Cylinders ['04 NB SE]
Today I pulled the seats out to give the cabin a good vacuum, and while I had three room I crawled under the wheel and disconnected the key buzzer. No more annoying beeping when the door is open. I tried it last weekend but without the seat out of the cabin there wasn't room to take a good look.

Not too sure why you were bothered with looking..... Just keep yanking wires until the buzzing stops!

Re: Lachstock and Four Turbo Charged Cylinders ['04 NB SE]
I took a road trip up to Bundaberg to visit some friends this weekend, about an 800km round trip journey.
I skipped out of work at lunch time to get ahead of the torrential down pour hitting SE QLD, and from all reports I got out just in time with many roads being flooded behind me. There were some sketchy bits on the drive, dropped the speed down to 60km/h or so and backed off the car in front so I could just see tail lights, but no incidents and I don't think I even saw anyone on the side of the road after a slip. The car got a good wash!
On the way home, after about 40 minutes I stopped to get petrol and something to eat as I passed through a town. When I slowed down to do a turn the car was idling high, about 1500rpm, then when I put the car into gear to move off it bogged down and wanted to stall. This happened a few times as I maneuvered around town, I had to give the car a bootfull of revs to move off. After coming out of Maccas I checked under the hood but nothing seemed amiss, and when I set off again everything was fine, and the car didn't miss a beat the rest of the trip home.
Any idea what might cause this? The car is due to be serviced in a couple of weeks, so if I can have this issue addressed then it would be awesome.
Unfortunately the car did not get a wash on the way home, and now it's covered in dead bugs. I'll need to sort that soon!

That sounds like the symptoms I had when my spark plug leads started failing, though I don't think I had a high idle.

So did you replace them? What with? New leads have been on my mind lately, so I might give it a shot.

careful going down the road of replacing plugs, leads, fuel filters, coils ,injectors ,sensor's etc etc to fix the problem.
you will probably get a dozen responses with as many probable causes.
if its seems ok now maybe wait for the service.
did you get an engine check light?

That's what I would recommend.
I replaced the leads with Magnacore Reds (and new spark plugs just for the hell of it) because I knew that was what the problem was as it was consistent and didn't go away. That's just one suggestion for a possible cause, but I would follow Pezchops suggestion of waiting till it rears its head again otherwise you end up spending money chasing your tail on an unknown fault

Sounds like the "Dreaded Bog"
Often talked about on the MSM site
Or may simply be your Idle Speed Control valve.
It is attached to the throttle body, and I have cleaned mine a couple of times over the years.

Re: Lachstock and Four Turbo Charged Cylinders ['04 NB SE]
mine did something a bit crazy like that a few months back and I thought plug leads and I purchased new one. prior to that -not a problem.
leads arrived and I was in the process of fitting and touched this unit here and for some reason it had come partly unclicked and that was it - new leads for nothing

It was really wet, so maybe some water got into the engine bay. Pop off te leads, etc and look for moisture.

Good points Pete. I don't want to go down the rabbit hole. No CEL, or any other signs things were amiss.

This sounds exactly like it! I've read about the Bog several times, but the thought didn't even occur to me. I did a little looking on mazda-speed forums and found this post http://www.mazda-speed.com/forum2/index.php/topic,30910.0.html - sounds like my exact scenario. It hasn't happened again so far, but I will add the solenoid clean to my next bit of maintenance to do.
Thanks MINX!
I still think I'll change the plug leads in time anyway as people say the stock ones deteriorate over time.

It'd been a day and a half of sunny weather since the big wet, but you're right, it could be a possibility, I'll have a go at that too.

I'll check all the connections while I'm under the hood, thanks for the tip ;)
Thanks all for your suggestions and responses, much appreciated, such a great forum here. "The Bog" sounds like the most probably culprit, and it's an easy job to do. While I'm there I'll check for moisture and ensure all connectors are connected. And if I get any further troubles I'll see what that folks at Auto Plus reckon.

Actually the high idle isn't a characteristic of the 'bog', I suspect some moisture just got somewhere it didn't belong....
If it hasn't happened again since then don't give it another thought.
As for the leads? It can't hurt to replace then as they're getting old but that being said have the plugs been replaced? They are due at 120K if if they haven't been replaced that's the original plugs from the factory still in there!

Re: Lachstock and Four Turbo Charged Cylinders ['04 NB SE]
No sign of "the Bog" since, so alls well for now, I haven't done the solenoid clean or changed the leads.
I took her in for her 120,000 km service the other week. I've done roughly 25k km in the year or so I've owned the car, and it's been a great ride so far. I'm looking forward to many more years of ownership and great drives. They mentioned the clutch feels like it's on it's way out, the take up point is very high. It's always been high, but it does seem a bit higher lately. I'll ride on it for a bit longer and start sizing up my alternatives for a new one. Seeing as I hope to increase power with ECU/Injectors/boost in the near future, I want to ensure I allow for that and probably won't be sticking with OEM. Any suggestions?
My partner and decided to get a new "family" car to replace her 10 year old Hyundai Getz, she wanted something with 4 doors, plenty of room for adults, and a boot to fit our growing puppy. She's always been fond of the Mitsubishi Outlander (I couldn't even get her to look twice at the Nissan X-Trail - my preference) and after a brief flirtation with the Holden Captiva (epic reliability issues) we found a MY11 Outlander LS (FWD), 77k km, with a manual 'box. On Monday I negotiated a deal to trade the Getz and I think we got a good deal.
The Outlander is a great deep navy blue, but on closer inspection it's full of swirls, and there is a patch of oxidisation or some sort of stain on the bonnet. So I went to carcareproducts.com.au to research getting an Orbital polisher and bits, then discovered they had a Brisbane show room in Coorparoo, so I went down in person and picked up a bunch of gear. They were fantastic, and I recommend them to anyone looking to get some more serious gear, they have showrooms in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney and their online shop is pretty good too!
Yesterday afternoon was full on detailing for the MX-5 to test out the new gear, and the car is looking sharp. Today's much much bigger task is to detail the Outlander! I might need to focus on a few major panels, rather than the whole thing but we'll see how we go. Hopefully I'll have some photos soon.
