Definitely interested in the results. My clutch is unknown, does not slip even after abuse with 250whp, but it grabs like a switch if you're not careful. I've heard about Jim Berry's clutches using organic material, giving easy drivability, but still holding up to power.

The previous clutch Jim put together was for the 250rwhp mark- it held together really well with the power increase for about 12 months when I had the standard 17x7 racingheart rims with descent rubber and was a pleasure in the day to day drive, but soon as I firmed up the traction with lightweight 16x8 on AD08Rs and traction wasn't breaking so easy, I knew something on the driveline would give...... Its logical that Jim's original clutch would be 1st to go seeing as it was ment for 100rwhp less. I should have a good idea of how it settles in over the next few weeks with thoughts/results to be posted.....

Still running the standard SE 6 speed and diff, mrsB touched on this in another of my posts a while back- fingers crossed they can hold up for a while

6 speed should be good for around 350rwhp, maybe more given it's a street car. If you want something stronger your options are limited, to the extent that for some the best option is to treat the gearbox as a consumable and simply replace each time it breaks...
The diffs are pretty damn tough and you've also got the bigger axles with the SE. Should be good for 400+rwhp if you avoid axle tramp.
You can also protect components through your tune - delivering a big whack of torque in a short period of time is going to lessen the life of everything, so slowing down the boost ramp-up and smoothing out the torque delivery should make everything last longer.

Thanks for the heads up mate, I did look into having someone like neat gearboxes or similar shop to rig up a strengthened rebuild- they seem to be reasonable on the rebuild price as are some of the others out there, but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it and just compare rebuild/replace cost.
Thinking about any axle tramp, I'll be doing a bit of research on the nolathane as well as strengthened engine mounts etc next year when the funds are better, but I am lucky to have Matty Spry looking after and keeping the tune safe and power delivery smooth for me!

It is in and running, clutch pedal is a bit higher and just slightly stiffer.... only a bit of stop start driving in traffic thus far to help the bedding in so its still grabbing slightly, but I expected that! I'll be doing a long drive out to Stanthorpe Christmas day, early morning to let it have a good run. Feels great so far- must say the problem child feels a different beast, more to come.........

1st impressions of the new clutch and 9+ kg flywheel......... brilliant! Its bedded in well. A 3 hr drive from the Gold Coast to Stanthorpe Christmas morning was great- the power delivery through the driveline has never felt smoother , the Neova ad08r's bit into the road without break of traction, and a half dozen "angry overtakes" was almost scary! Dropping it in from 6th to 4th at 100kmh + smacking the right foot to the floor = Now, yeh, I know that we all love talking up our 5's, but I have to say...... holy s*** the Problem Child is quick!!!
I cant be any more happy with Jims new clutch, it feels almost as light under foot as the last one (2600lbs of clamp on the old one vs 3800lbs on this new one- I recall "mechanic 2" having mentioned that Jims 1st clutch was good for 500hp, Jim told me that mechanic 2 was a moron and he didnt know where he got that info from- Jim said the 1st clutch was built for around 250-300hp )
I filled up with e85 before taking off and reset the trip meter, so I can say on normal open road driving (with some angry overtakes of course) its good for around 400k's on a full tank

I been pondering Sams thoughts on the gearbox with the idea of avoiding the potential of a gearbox fail down the line. When we had the box out doing the clutch, it still looked pretty good (at this time its only seen just over 100000ks and no major power running through it until after 77000ks). I have looked into avenues of rebuild costs as well as replacement and I'm really starting to like the idea of what neat gearboxes in S.A offer. (They quote a full 5 speed mx5 box rebuild for $1800) but will also do shot peen and polish for the DYI's at a lot less and post it back for free. Their shot peen process according to their web page info can increase fatigue strength between 30-50% & I think I'd rather strengthen up what I have for a predictable set cost than sail into the financial unknown should I mash up the 6 speed up down the line.
looking for a replacement, I can assume a genuine SE 6 speed is not in abundance. I'll be hitting up mechanic Daz' wisdom when he gets back from holidays, but think neat gearbox web page is worth a look for anyone in similar thoughts.

Legend has it, your gear box already has shot peaned gears (if it's a genuine SE box)
