Ok,
Got the job done.
Phase 3 took a while because I had to weld some plates to the chassis, so that I have captive nuts to bolt to. Obviously this is not a job you want to mess up
Unfortunately my diff mounts did not arrived in time, so I will have to take the diff back off again at some point.
I was a little worried that the brace might not make that much difference and that I was putting in a lot of effort for little change. However this is not the case! Just rolling the car over the bump at the end of our drive feels totally different, much tighter. I have not been for a long drive yet because I need the alignment doing, but I think it will be like a differnt car.
Next job -- Adjustable top arms on the rear. Going to use cam bolts, like the ones on the lower arms.

The diff mounts arrived, so the diff has been off the car again.
I will be doing a sprint on Sunday, so all being well, I will stop missing 3rd and going to 5th.

I was not going to fit my brake bias valve so soon, because the brake unions did not want to come undone with risking messing up the nuts. However, now that I am armed with my new flared spanners, there is not problem, so here it is - flyin Miata kit. Very easy to fit, not really dríven the car yet or set it up. Sprint on Sunday, so we shall see how we go.

Some things are not to be missed. I was planning on spending money on more power next, but this came up $350 (unfortunately a WA club member lost their MX5 to the recent hail storm )
Before - After -
I have given a section of it a clean, t-cut and polish and it is now the same colour as my car. There are a few scratches on the front lip and at the back but $350 I am not complaining.
(as you can see my car is all different colours anyway since some dude did a U-turn in front of me)
I think the weight will be similar or lighter than my soft top, so from a performance perspective, I think I will roughly break even. BUT - man does it make an immediate difference to the chassis stiffness - I am sure some people will disagree, but my car is 20 years old now It just feels different, tighter when riding bumps.

Good score Simon!
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Here are some vids of today's WA sprint round. Quality is not great, they were done with a point and shoot camera fastened to the roll bar with hose clips

I think I spotted you on Leech Hwy this afternoon about 4ish, took me a second to realise it was probably you because the car was running a soft top.

Have you had any luck with the quads? I think there was mention of a cheap ebay adaptor on clubroadster (the author did mention they had to slightly enlarge the adaptor ports to make it more efficient ) .

Very nice diary. Love what you're doing with the car, especially with your own hands.

The adapter keeps the toyota manifold and injectors, etc. I really want to just use the throttle bodies.
Hoping to get a manifold made in the next week or so. Looked at buying a full manifold from the same company that you can get an adapter from, but the extra cost of a custom made one is not enough to take the risk on an internet part that is un-tried.
I have done some home work, and inlet plate size on the AE101 should be suit to the power I will ultimately be look for so that is good. The only other thing is runner length, but I think I might be constrained by my brake lines, so there is probably a re-route of those to think about.
Keep an eye out for more updates - unlikely to be done before the sprint event though
