Started work on the my cylinder head today. I have finished working on the upper and lower shoulders on the inlet side of all cylinders. I need to do some work in the chambers still, but I need the had gasket to do that.
I also have my new manifold, there is a bit of work to do to match the ports, as you can see below. The quality and fit of the manifold is very good.
As you can see from the pic above there is a bit of a ridge on the entry to the manifold, there is also a small lip in the runner (not visible) and of course the port needs matching.
Above is a finished runner, port matched and all, only another 3 to go. Obviously looks a bit rougher now, but it is certain blended better from the circular throttle body entry to the head port shape.

Not sure I can get e85 easily in perth, the head is a b6t, so I have some water plumbing to do.

I have done 3 out of the 4 inlet ports now.
Also decided that the work I did yesterday needed more attention because it was not good enough, happy with it now though
Manifold is really nice quality, can't wait to use it.

Nice work. Do you have access to a flow bench to see if you actually improved flow at the valve lifts you plan to use?

It's been a while - busy getting house reno phase 3 complete before my wife delivers our baby daughter in about 5 weeks time.
But I did manage to find some time on the car in between this weekend's club auto test, which was very wet and very fun!! Lots of sideways fun!
Quick aside - I really think some tyres you can purchase should be made illegal. I bought a new pair of Super Cats (made by bridgestone, I believe) for my 5, now I did get them because they are cheap since I rarely drive the car on street tyres (usually on r-comps). So driving to the auto test this morning (in the wet), I think if I had of sneezed on the freeway it would have put the car into a spin. I put on a bit of thottle on the slip road in a straight line and the back started stepping out. Anyone who was at the auto test will testify to the amazing lack of grip or traction these tyres have. So can you imagine someone who has never experienced over steer before driving on these tyres in the wet - simply dangerous. (step off the soap box)
So what have I done, well the bottom end of the engine is complete, had to wait for may gaskets to arrive from the UK, mazda wanted $75 for one of the sump seals, hence get a complete set of gaskets from the UK
Also the porting work on the head is all done, no pics of that, but pretty much more the same (See other pics) but on the exhaust side.
I preparation for the new engine, I have moved to Supra injectors (305cc) and I am currently wiring my coil packs
Next is head gasket, valve springs and retainers.

Unfortunately I don't have access to a flow bench, it would be good, but I think a lot of what I have done is quite safe, just done the typical clean up, smoothed things out, particularly the lower shoulder and I did not have much choice on the head ports because of the manifold size. The ultimate flow bench will be dyno, when I find out if it has been worth it
Interestingly on the head I have the outer two cylinders are much smoother on the lower shoulders of the ports than the middle two, which have quite sharp edges in there, well did have.

Got the car running successfully on the COPs today, so very happy with that. The rev counter has stopped working, but that seems to be common and is fixable with a capacitor, I think. I still need to make a plate to hold the COPs in place, so will post up some pics when I am done.

I did not think I would find the time today, but I have managed to get the COPs finished and here is the result.
So this completes the preparations for the engine. I did not want to be changing the injectors, fuel map, ignition AND engine all at the same time, just too many changes for effective fault tracking. So now, I hope I can focus on the new engine a bit more now. Want to get it done before November, because there is a time attack event I would like to enter.

Funny you should mention that, been to see Mark at Harris Engines today to drop my head off. Mark is getting my valve guides, but more interestingly....
Bit of a school boy error on my part, I did not realise that I would need my valve seats cut for the new guides, but this got me thinking, so now I am moving to 1mm oversize valves on the intake and exhaust size
So that is about 6-7% increase in throat size on the both the inlet and outlet size, not sure what hp that will get me?
