even the white spokers look alright but they will also go to a gloss clear coated black

I seem to recall you said you were adding white stripes and/or details....
If so I would hold off on painting the wheels until you've done that as I suspect the white wheels would work better.

I am a long way off painting the wheels. at the moment I don't really know if I will run a side strip or not. some of these things happen right at the very end

Agree with holding off on painting the rims, I'm not a fan of black since you can only see the rims up close and black "drabs out" the car too much.
At least wait until you've finished the body then photoshop different coloured rims on it to see what looks best (my vote would be a light gun-metal grey).

Good idea, but my vote is a Rays style bronze. Always looks good on red.

gives me something to think about while I go about the task of rubbing the clear coat off these
after that it will be a good clean up with grease and wax remover followed by a wipe down with a tack cloth then hit with a 1k plastic primer - but not today
