Andrew's '93 NA6 - KL V6 swap

Well, I tried but the cast material was really difficult to get a nice looking weld on. All the welds are airtight but they look pretty dodgy
I also got the engine in for (hopefully) the second last time ever.
Then I discovered a HUGE problem there is almost no room for the exhaust. It was meant to go where the original B6 exhaust went but the starter motor takes up all that space now (didn't realise it was that big). Here are some pics of the problem:
No idea how to solve this one. The exhaust can't go down the other side because there's hardly any room there either, and there is the slave cylinder and heaps of wiring there... Any suggestions?

better photos to see it better.
Blowtorch and a sledge hammer, or the proper way, cut out a section of the tunnel and weld in half a 4" diametre pipe (c section).

Lol Dann. Do you reckon it will do 13's? That's faster than I thought it would be. My goal is to have it go 0-100 in under 6 seconds. My mate has a stock 1999 WRX which apparently does it in about 6 flat which seems plenty quick enough for me... though I'd like it to be quicker than his
I'll have to have a chat to an engineer before I do anything to the tunnel, wouldn't want to have it knocked back and have to un-bash it, lol. I think that's the only way I'll be able to fit it, cheers.
Gslender I think I'll just leave it as-is, that part of the manifold won't be visible with it installed.

Dump exhaust through fenders?
Not entirely convertible compatible, but neither is reducing the already limited amount of legroom!
Guessing you're not going to lower the car 'too much' so won't there be room underneath/next to the driveshaft and PPF?

Chris' post is good. Most V6 / V8 conversions likely have similar or bigger problems with clearance somewhere.

Thanks heaps for all the links and suggestions guys. I was messing around with a piece of the exhaust tubing and found that it can just squeeze through above the starter motor if I move the A/C drain. With a bit of tunnel bashing and heat wrapping I think it will be OK. Do I need the A/C drain if I don't have A/C?
I've made a bit of progress this morning on the intake manifold. This afternoon I'll try to make the velocity stacks and hopefully weld them to the manifold.

That last pic makes me think your airbox should feed directly behind thru the firewall?
Eventually get Lightyear to make you a carbon fibre lid for the top of the airbox.
Or exposed trumpets with the metal tray sealed against the bonnet? Filtering?
