madjak thanks. I will check the COP's. In general I bolt the COP's down so the nyloc nut has just been engaged. Further I also put dielectric grease on them.

I'm not comfortable changing the ECU wiring however will pass on the suggestion.

Frustrating

Mark,
My newly fitted Haltech was ultimately the problem with my car. Initially I could drive sedately for ages with no issues. Then apparently when hot, it would cut out suddenly and not restart for 5-10 minutes. I also had problems with hesitation under load. I could drive all the way to Mt Cotton, but the moment it spent any time at WOT on the track (and that's not much at Mt Cotton) it's would hesitate at high rpm.

Eventually it happened frequently enough that it would just stop while idling or driving sedately. The ECU was swapped out, and that fixed it. Mine was sent away and came back with the diagnosis of a faulty poly fuse.

It is now fine.

There was a fuel surge issue that was occurring concurrently which confused me for a bit.

Hopefully the test ECU works! I remember all your issues well.

Anyway other half is off to Plus tomorrow with the trailer to collect it. I'm not game enough to drive it on the road as it still has all the livery from WTAC plus its splitter is illegal.

Had a discussion with some very nice police type people on Monday when it was on the trailer and I asked about the windscreen banner. The comment was it appears to be too low and blocking the drivers vision. I did say you sit quite low in it and I'm short, however thanks for the advice and I'll remove it (and the numbers) before it is on the street again. When they went in for coffee my other half overheard them discussing the car, not from pulling it over perspective but having a decent look at it someday. Still I think I will keep its profile low :)

Will unload tomorrow and change wheels to the FZ201's and bring the AD08's and a set of R888's out as well. Then load it back on the trailer, load the Amarok should be easy not much has been unpacked from WTAC.

The R88's are being lent to an attendee...

VERDICT...
1. Run car with swapped in PS1000 computer at Morgan Park. TICK
a. If fault develops try the zip tie method. TICK
b. If fault does not develop swap in a previously failed cam angle sensor
2. If zip tie method works (1a), scratch head then thrash the hell out of the car. TICK
3. If swapped in sensor works (1b) then thrash the hell out of the car and it is a computer issue
4. If the swapped in sensor fails (1b), insert new OEM sensor and thrash the hell out of the car as it is not a computer issue. When/If sensor fails put in another (rinse and repeat)
5. If 3 - leave computer installed
6. If 2 or 4 - insert Haltech sensor and re-test before Nossa Hill Climb TICK

It would appear that the failure MOST OF THE TIME results after an extended period of idling, for example 10 mins. However, not the sort of idling very slow moving as in peak hour traffic.

So not only can cable ties repair a turtles shell but also a MX5 NB Cam Angle Sensor. John Pham you have my thanks and respect!

So my reading is the Ziptie fixed the problem regardless but if it's not ziptied idling can cause the problem?

If so, So why bother swapping in the haltec sensor, problem is fixed. Create a permanent connection to the sensor by epoxying the cable / pins in place and then install a Deutch Plug further up the loom.

Sailaholic yes your reading of the problem would be correct.

Have thought of export/direct wiring and a deutsch plug. Actually this was suggested by Jason as a test, hence why I was looking for the plugs.

My thought is to install the Haltech sensor on a deutsch plug as well as wire the existing CAS to a deutsch. This way if the Haltech fails I can swap in an OEM sensor pre cable tied (plug and play), or I could make up some OEM sensors with direct wires and epoxy. I have a few sensors spare now!

I think the Haltech sensor will give more reliability and that is a positive thing. Pissed off that the solution was so simple, but more than happy that it is solved. Again thanks John.

No problems with the fans either, in fact the car ran cooler than previous, for once oil temp was more than water. It would appear that the fan relay has been dodgy for a while.

PASS Grant :(

Could be the engine mounts, specific frequency. The connector always feels solid and not loose at all when if failed.

Anyway, Haltech sensor installed will confirm the issue I guess.

Why screw around with the halted sensor when you have a perfectly good oem sensor AND oem mount.

The OEM mount could be the issue. The sensor has already been fabricated so all that is needed is to make the plugs and it is good to go. Personally I would not want to rely upon the cable tie as the fix.

This is personal now :)

Catching back up on things but was good to meet you at WTAC Magpie. Commending you on the lovely coolant re-route. Do give me a call if you want to use the DENSO filter as it's even better than the HKS one :)

Also 15" wheel size brotherhood for life

Car is at Accurate Suspension for an alignment and setup comments. Had a good chat on possible changes:
- 8" tyres
- softer front springs
- coil overs
- Kaz rear diff
- OEM front sway
- driver education

Owner is very blunt, quite refreshing actually!

Ken's brother is a regular competitor in an NB with supercharger at Mount Cotton. It sounds awesome.
Ken and his wife both compete at Mt Cotton and I've seen them at a motorkhana - they are both pretty good peddlers!

Even with all those changes, your only talking 10th of seconds....

The elephant in the room is you.....You drive like a woman's vagina.

You don't need any more driver training. Learn to drive dumb. Most fast drivers are thick as two short planks.

You have been driving for years, your just slow..... I've followed you around in my skyboat, which had 300hp, your car pulled about 8 lenghts on me in the straight, my car handles like poo, I was knocking 4 seconds a lap off your times and I can't drive. It's not the car

Try and enjoy it for what it is..... Fun. After the first doz track days, you only start chasing 10th of seconds.... I'm pretty sure your car could do sub 60 second time around lakeside.

You are not going to find 7 seconds with those changes. How much have you spent on your car 60-80k?

It's like watching a crack addict.....

Come on mate, enjoy (as I do) been a sh*t driver, go do some skids and enjoy the drive.....and give Zero f#%ks

All the love in the world NIgel

Nigel I love you to and it hurts but I agree with you (both publically and privately). Those were the suggestions made will I follow them is the question as I said Ken was refreshingly blunt!

I'm going to adopt a "Come on mate, enjoy (as I do) been a sh*t driver, go do some skids and enjoy the drive.....and give Zero f#%ks" attitude. The problem with the car has always been the driver (me), agree it is capable of fast times the question is can I ever drive it to its limits.
