Hi Danny, just seen your posts and have spent several hours reading through them all. An impressive undertaking, well done!
I don't know if this is of interest to you, but I have been in discussion with a leading gearbox company about putting together a close ratio dog engagement gear kit to go inside the RX8 series 1 gearbox. Gears are rated at over 500 FWHP and a range of ratios will be available. The kit will be obviously be a lot cheaper than a sequential box, let me know if you are interested and I'll get some more details to you.

Hi Pip, the next step gearbox wise will be to fit a sequential of some sort. The current H-pattern is merely a stepping stone.

Cheers,
Danny

I received some more photos from Trackphotos.com.au of the 5 at Maximum Attack earlier this month.

The car will be on display this Saturday at Automotive Plus' Open Day. It will also do a few power runs on GT Auto Garage's dyno as well.

It was a rather warm day at the Automotive Plus / GT Auto Garage 2014 Open Day yesterday. Here's a few piccies and a dyno video. I was rather happy when it made another 5rwkW over the previous dyno run....all the seals are bedding in well. So peak power is now 338 rwkW (453 rwhp) @ 9,800rpm!

Cheers,
Danny

Danny - clearly an impressive engine and car.

Can you explain why the large flame occurs? - I'm guessing it is due to the large amount of fuel still being injected at overrun (and subsequently ignited), but is that just not being bothered to tune out (and it looks cool) or is there some other positive engineering benefit to that excess fuel being wasted and expelled that way? or is that a unique characteristic of a rotary, not seen on the conventional engine?

It's too prevent other drivers from passing him under race conditions, they're too scared to get close enough behind him to overtake!

Since the F-111's (with their cool Dump-and-Burn party-trick that everyone loved) are no longer available for Riverfire, Brisbane City council has contacted Danny to do something similar.

Next year's event will feature Danny's car doing a dump-and-burn across the Story Bridge.

Agree with the F-111 replacement for 'Riverfire'

A few laps up and down the Riverside Expressway, lift off and the crowd would go crazy!!

Simon I'm not sure the 'Southerners' would understand the effect a 'dump & burn' has on people!!

You are spot on. It's not that we haven't bothered adjusted the tune to remove this occurrence...it's just that we haven't had a chance to do so. The open day was the first time that the car has been back on the dyno since it had a couple of hours spent on it prior to WTAC 2014. Early in 2015 will see quite a few more hours spent on the tune. The only benefit to the flame is the show that it puts on! :P

Cheers,
Danny

given that any venture like this requires quite a bit money (both time and in dollars) you need to make a business case for it.

the way i figure it, as this is basically an advertising piece for MX5 Plus and Danny's other associated businesses the flame is actually an essential feature and should, if possible, be enhanced.

maybe if you could somehow tune the tip so the flame looked more akin to a jet after burner you may see an appreciable increase in customers.

seriously, please don't tune it out!

Why paint flames on a car when you can make them. I agree provided there is no detriment to the car let it belch them!

Fair call guys....as Ian Baker (CEO of WTAC) says, it's all about the show!

Speaking of WTAC, a couple of photos of the car turned up in Option's January 2015 issue (Japanese auto magazine). 8)
