I've pulled the "rear clamshell" off a S1 Elise and S1 exile a few times now. its a pretty easy job and makes getting to the engine accessories a whole lot easier.
Not too sure how hard the S2 and S3 elises are to remove the rear clamshell

Re: billybunters - from a bmw z4 to a mx5 se
well I decided to give ssc a ring in regard to that cai and the guy told me i'd get a bit more mid range power plus the induction noise thrown in. he said best of all because it is a well thought out bit of kit
I will get no nasty cel light annoying me with the change over from factory airbox to the ssc cai - price $575 delivered. that's the green mushroom style one above. almost looks overpriced
so my funds are actually shot so I had no choice but to go looking at my inmates
quite a few sat up beaks open as it was a bit on the hot side today but three on the perch caught my attention.
one green back in the centre would do the job and buy the cai and if I wanted to go further the outside two would get me the sports exhaust but I will pass on that idea. so once I study fitting instructions I might move out a couple more cheaper inmates and go cai
I was told I could upgrade the supercharger for $13k fitted and go from 220 hp to 300 hp and run 0 to 100 kph in 3.5. interesting but not this year. if I have a good run on the birds next season I might take the risk then. plus I could probably sell the factory supercharger set up to some other lotus guy.
plus I still have to move another lot of birds to go e85 on the SE as that project is not completed.

I think you'll be happy if you do the intake and exhaust, the 220 hp with lotsa noise is doing it for me, plenty fast. Still 4.3 to 100 is ok around town...

plus you have to be very careful if you put them up on a hoist and and remove a front wheel and upset their balance

Re: billybunters - from a bmw z4 to a mx5 se
call today from a bird buyer in west aust. he wants birds and the $$$ involved are extremely good. if I sold the se and took this guy's money I would not be very far off a nd purchase. only problem -he will compete with me next year when the real money is about
or I could refuse the sale and split the stock up into little lots and slow it down
hard life in bird world! at least you only sell a car once or in most cases once! here it is $18,000

Re: billybunters - from a bmw z4 to a mx5 SE
Now that the plan is to just keep this car the next long term choice would be to either keep it a one off in the white or go back to its original factory colour of sunlight silver
well that could be done too I suppose but I was also thinking there is nothing wrong with the factory SE colour titanium. I could be lured to that colour
its pretty close to sunlight silver -well if you look with both eyes closed

Why on Earth go for one of the factory SE colours?
If I was to repaint my Titanium SE there would be so many other options I would prefer...
- yellow
- green
- probably go for the NA colour, Laguna Blue!

The only reason to restore the Sunlight Silver is if you wanted to sell it again, but we all know you don't actually want to sell it.
Like Nevyn said, try something different if you've got a painting itch. I'm a fan of blues, Mariner as mentioned, or a Gulf Blue like this?
