Not long now :) The dump pipe and rest of the exhaust is being done today, then it's time to swap the motors over and book it in for tuning.

I forgot to mention earlier that I picked up an Adaptronic e420c when CM Sport and I went halves in another MX5. The original idea of the green MX5 has since changed and it is now getting the spare LS1 we had sitting around in it, cause you know CM Sport and I have too much spare time on our hands haha. Back onto my car, here is a picture of the oil cooler mounted up (yes I know the rad support is looking pretty ugly, it will be getting some love soon). Other than that not much has happened in the past week.

Last night we got the front end all pulled apart to clean up the radiator support. Also pulled the aircon gear out and unplugged the harness from the motor, then it got too late to make noise so we called it a night and watched TopGear while sinking beers

After spending some time looking into the different coolant re-routes on the market I decided on the M-tuned one, the remote thermostat housing is so much better than having it on the back of the motor if something ever goes wrong with the thermostat. So I got my pennies together and ordered it through FlyinMiata and it showed up today. I haven't pulled it out of the box yet so here is the website image haha.

I also purchased a Cooling Pro 42mm alloy radiator from my mates at Just Jap. After doing some more research I found some guys in the states run a 37mm with the coolant re-route and noticed the smallest size Aussie companies generally sell is the 42mm, with our climate being so different to that in the states the 42mm seemed like the correct decision. Teamed up with the coolant re-route and good radiator air flow everything should be right.

Not a whole lot has been happening to my Mx5 as of late, I've been flatout doing other things. One thing which kept me away from my car was helping to build a EG civic, now it doesn't sound too exciting until I mention that it is a RWD SR20det powered EG Civic. Using all Jap Spec S15 parts including the strut towers, S15 Cusco coil overs, engine, gearbox, and diff. The tail shaft is custom made to be longer than the S15 one, custom firewall, custom tunnel, custom fuel tank and lot's more. Read about the build here http://blog.nulon.com.au/2014/08/impossible-fabrication-teams-up-with-nulon-to-build-a-honda-with-a-slight-difference/

As well as the civic I have been helping Redback Racing prep their R35 GTR which ran it's first event the other week at Targa High Country. I also had the privilege of doing the official shoot for its release right before WTAC.

The green Mx5 is now built and running again, no LS1 just the 1.6L again. CM Sport and I are doing the Thrusday night Targa series at Sydney Dragway tomorrow night to get a bit of training before we venture into Targa. So yeah we will be out there tomorrow night.

Now back to my car, the coolant re-route is going together. Just need to get the turbo lines done and it will be ready to go in. I customised the water pump inlet a little as the hose sat a little close to the turbo manifold, it probably would have been fine but I tend to worry a lot haha, it also came up pretty good after a quick hit from the wire wheel. I am also looking into putting LS2 coils on, has anybody on here gone down that road before and could provide me with a little more info?

So I haven't posted in a while and I guess I should put up an update.

This project was put on the back burner for quite a few months hence the lack of updates (sh*t the last update was November last year). A few things popped up and circumstances changed as time went on, this led to the decision to sell the car, it was at a point that I could put it back together as it was and sell it. And that's exactly what happened, luckily it went to a guy who had a passion for Mx5's so I knew it was going into good hands.

Image

So what happens now?
Well Luke and I are still racing tarmac rally, we travelled down to Victoria last year with the Green NA after a mate invited us down for the Australian Tarmac Rally Championship Snowy River Sprint, we both had a ball and learnt a lot about the car.

Image

Image

After this Luke thought about buying a NB turbo to compete in giving us that extra power without a dramatic change in the class we would compete in. After we both spent a few months looking at built ones that were for sale and the costs of building one ourselves. Suddenly a deal popped up that was too good to refuse, Chris from Targa Racing was selling one of his NC's. The car was already built, prepped and proven itself already competing in a number of events. As I said it was too good to pass up on so a deal was made and it came home with us.

Image

So the white car is gone, the green car is sitting in the shed and the NC is the new race car. But what about all the turbo gear I had?
Well at the start of the year a shell popped up, great condition, no panel damage, no crash history etc etc. I decided to buy the shell to build from the ground up, a fresh start. So the turbo build is still going ahead and it's getting a few extras that weren't originally planned for the white car. There's no set deadline and no set goal, its just happening slowly but surely.

Parts have been slowly arriving, Jetstream rear spoiler and Zoom centre console. Hopefully I get a chance to test fit the spoiler soon
