And the 65.7 onboard. Still heaps left in it. Quicker than my previous PB by 4 tenths, but still dríven considerably less smoothly.

Haven't dríven the car much at all lately, fell down some stairs at work on Friday night and haven't been able to move my feet properly until today. Workcover refuse to pay for the time off, but that's another rant.

Installed an Ecliptech Shift-i shift light today. Nice and simple, 3 wires right behind the gauge cluster. Filed a little slot out of the gauge hood to run the wires through without pinching them, all sorted. Seems pretty good, visible but not blinding outside with the top down, haven't tried with the top up yet. Got it set for first LED at 3k rpm, last LED/flashing at 7k. Lotus club short track sprints next weekend, won't help since I don't need to change from 2nd gear, but it'll be nice and shiny at least.

Did a quick night test with the new shift light in to see how blinding it is. Turns out, not at all. Dims very well based on ambient light, visible but not distracting. Set to 3000rpm first light and 6900rpm top light, will probably adjust it to 4500rpm first light for track stuff. Might leave it switched off for road driving, little of that as I do.

Since last post, couple of little things have changed. Got my shagged RSRs replaced so I can drive on the road without wasting semis anymore. Fitted Racing Beat 4-1 headers, Racing Beat midpipe with Magnaflow cat, and Racing Beat PowerPulse muffler. Sounds nice, little more bark, bit louder without being obnoxious. Should be able to hear it while on track around other cars now.

Also fitted front and rear tow hooks and a fire extinguisher. Running Mt Cotton hillclimb for the first time this weekend, CAMS track so must have an extinguisher inside the car. The tow hooks were more of an optional necessity, you could say. There's a reasonable chance of burying the front end in a mound of macadamia nut shells if I get the hairpin wrong, so having a rear hook that sits lower and further out means if they have to retrieve the car from there, it shouldn't pull the strap up and crack the rear bar.

Went to Mt Cotton for the first time today. Set myself a goal of 53.08 to match a friend's X3 series Excel cup car time. Sadly, missed out, best of 53.28. The car is absolutely capable of it, but it didn't take long for me to decide that Mt Cotton is too unforgiving to push hard for extra tenths. I had one little moment exiting the second loop, and although it doesn't look like much, it felt like a lot. The camber changes of the track aren't visible until you walk the track yourself, and it's pretty damn well hidden in some spots when you're driving. I don't think I'll be back any time soon, just because any minor mistake is going to mean weeks of repairs. Too little track time, too little fun, to be worth the risk. That being said, I'd glad I did it at least once.

it was good to meet another QLD Mx5er today, and thanks for the electrical tape!

There are certainly lots of solid objects scattered around the Mt Cotton track!

Good to meet you too :) What was your pb for the day? I saw you getting heaps of runs in early-mid afternoon.

50:02 was the best I managed today! That :02 is the hook to get me back for another shot I think!

This magic device turned up today, 2 days after my wideband/gauge. Will start putting stuff in tomorrow and see if my old laptop still holds a charge. With a decent tune, I might find a noticeable amount of power over stock, this being paired with the new exhaust.

I will be interested to see what you gain from this tuning.

How are your MCA Blues going? Still happy and comfortable on the road?

Still as impressed as I ever was :) No complaints at all.

The ecu was largely because I convinced myself that although the power gains might not be worth the outlay, it's a step toward possible forced induction. I'm not expecting anything too major out of it, but with the exhaust it might be a noticeable difference. I'm going to be trying to tune it myself, so I won't have anything solid like before and after dyno graphs to compare.

Have you improved the intake?

Was really happy with my exhaust and intake mods, feels much nicer to drive.

Intake is all stock at the moment, not even removing the MAF yet either. Will get around to that later, but for now I figured I'd better make the job as simple as possible so there's less for me to get wrong. Installing the wideband and gauge, and learning to look at and understand the ecu, will be enough to keep me busy.

So I put the MSPnP in this morning, but haven't gotten the wideband in yet. So far, it won't run on the base map, or the 'start' map that they suggest to help with cars not starting. I assume it's a simple matter of changing some setting somewhere, whether it's reading MAP/MAF wrong, or any number of other things. Won't worry about it until I've fitted the wideband though, no point going to heaps of effort making it run on narrowband and them immediately having to change it to make it run on wideband instead.
