i suppose it comes down to whether a very direct intake is more important than a very direct dump pipe.

ps i know zero about turbo's but just seems logical

Very direct dump is more important because it affects spool, where as a little intake restriction is overwhelmed easily by boost.

i remember seeing a miata (maybe the latest/last incarnation of 'frankenmiata') having a dump pipe directly out the top of the bonnet, i suppose that's the direct way to do a reverse turbo mount.

Decided to look at getting a 2.5" exhaust.
I am hoping that allows the car to get on boost before 4000rpm
Damn Stock Exhaust!!

So i found a Magnaflow 18x4x9 SS Muffler with centre/Offset in/out.
Image

Delivered from the States for $110.

Then came the CAT.
I kinda of rushed to get cheaper postage from the same seller and just grabbed a Magnaflow Ceramic Unit.
Image
Paid the guy, went and had lunch. Then it hit me.
WHY DID I NOT GET A METAL CAT!!! :x :x

I just forgot all about it.
Kinda pissed at myself.
Got the CAT for $105, so its a good price but i am worried i will just kill it with the turbo.

Can anyone give me advice on if this will be ok under normal conditions?
Worried that i will install it and it will SH*T itself before i get a chance to get a few emissions runs.
Is anyone else out there running a Ceramic Cat with a Turbo?

I am assuming i will have to be careful with A/F ratios once it is in.

Other option is to sell it to a Non Turbo out there and buy the Magnaflow METALCORE unit or similar.
Image

I checked with the seller and the only Metal Cat he sells is a THUNDERBOLT SPUN METAL CAT.
Image

Never heard of that and the only reviews i could find where for Trucks.

I always think of these things like 20 mins afterwards!!

Well i do not feel so bad now.
Called up a mate of a mate

He says that he failed the IM240 with a metal cat, only to pass with a Ceramic.

Metal cats take too long to warm up apparently, in with only 4 mins for the test, well it does not go to well.

So new plan is just the old plan. Run the Ceramic.
Check it visually before my Emissions test, it is only $100 from the States.
Might just have a brand new one to go on the day of the test.

As it is a universal Cat, (ie-no flanges) i am thinking of running like a V-Clamp system so that hopefully i can just swap the Cat easily.
No More seized bolts.

I need a 3 inch muffler in similar dimensions for the next setup Im building.

And yes its going to have a V Band setup on the turbine.

"Sorry for the attack of updates lately.
Just i seem to get far better answers on here than elsewhere."

Few little issues while i was just checking things this morning while still waiting on my silicone adaptors :?

i decided to pull the hot side pipe off the turbo for a look.
Bit of oil, as i expected.
After full boost and the engine goes into vacuum i get a bit of a oil cloud.

But i looked inside the turbo and saw light coming in.... little odd.
Image

Turns out there was a little allen key bolt of the housing which i guess has fallen out.
Image

Luckily it must of fallen out not in the turbo.
So i will grab a small bolt today to fit there.

Also noticed something i do not think i noticed before but i am not very observant
Image

Is that split meant to be like that inside the housing?

Thanks Dann!! I was a little worried when i saw it
Cheers Bootz

After going over the engine bay a little this morning i decided there was a few things i kind of wish i could have done when we installed it but couldn't for various reasons.
With the car off the road till i get the intake Silicone i decided to fix-er up.

Was funny that it took hours to install yet within 40 mins i had most of it off.
Turns out all i have to do is disconnect the mid pipe from the cat and down pipe, then remove the manifold nuts and i can pull the whole unit off.

Image

Because i did not have the correct fittings we took the oil feed from the back of the B6 head.
Image

Seemed to work fine, not sure why no one else uses it as it is really easy to get to.
But i figured i might as well get the right fitting and use the normal port down low on the block.
So off to ENZED, apparently they can not get the correct adaptor so they are going to weld me up one using the original bolt that was in the block.
I have asked them to make the feed hole -3AN size, should be the right amount of restriction to hopefully stop the high boost oil cloud.
Turns out the fitting i was using was -4AN so at 60PSI of pressure, it could very well be too much.

I am also going to install the STAGE 8 locking tabs this time and i will replace the heater hoses so that hopefully they will not prove to be problematic any time soon.
They will need some heat protection as the downpipe is might close to them.

My poor turbo got dirty very quick!!! haha
Image
Not sure what the shiny little metal bits stuck in the rear housing are . A little concerning.
I do worry a lot

Anyways, ENZED say they will have it ready for me Saturday morning.
Can all go back together some point on the weekend and hopefully will be all sweet.
