Re: From Mexie ... to MXSE ...

A few days ago my son showed me a photo online of an RF with SE wheels. It looked really nice. Anyway, when he arrived home from work this afternoon we were standing around the cars talking and ... as you do ... we decided to grab a couple of my spare SE wheels from the shed and fit them to one side of his RF to see what they really looked like. Parked the car across the road to get a really good look...

Image

They really suit the car! Look way better in real life than in the photo!! In fact we both reckon they look better than the stock wheels on it. The extra few mm of offset help, though the tyres are smaller than stock so a slightly larger wheel to guard gap. It looked so good we decided to do a complete change of my wheels to his and his wheels to mine as something fun to try. Drove the cars a short distance up the road for some photos...

We're going to leave them on for a while for something different. We were very surprised that the 5mm negative offset of his wheels to mine wasn't really noticeable to the eye once fitted on my car. His tyres are 215 40 so slightly larger rolling diameter which fills the guards a little bit more which is mostly noticeable on the front, gives it a lowered look! I have always liked the ND wheels, but now if I end up with an RF I'll be fitting my SE wheels to it, they look so good on it!!

Thanks for posting those Kev, I have wondered about those wheels on the NB.

For my money the ND is the winner from the swap!

There is an old thread on the big forums showcasing NB wheels on the ND.

For giggles I even fitted the SE wheels to my Astina!

Exactly what we said too. The ND wheels are ok on mine and nice for a bit if a change, but I prefer the SE wheels. The SE wheels on his - especially against the pearl white - was a "WOW! that actually looks amazing" moment. Some proper size tyres and it will look even better! I'm probably going to have problems getting them back off him

5 spoke wheels are a classic look.
I'd like a set of the clone Momo Stars for my car.

The Astina, SE and SE wheels are all long gone...

I ended up settling on the standard NB8B wheels as a better fit for the Astina.

The fleet has evolved a bit since then!

The SE wheels look great on the ND, but might need a little more tyre-wall to fit nicely. I've never liked the ND wheels on the NB/SE though, they definitely suffer from a lack of offset IMO.

Yeah the ND was easily the winner here.

I'm 50/50 on the look of the ND wheels on mine. They're a nice looking wheel and the darker colour actually looks nice against the red. The ND wheel+tyre actually felt slightly lighter than the SE wheel+tyre, though we didn't weigh them so we will need to take one off each car at some stage and do that out of interest. Interestingly, when I fitted the first rear ND wheel to mine with the other side still SE, we stood back either side looking from the rear at various angles and distances and we really couldn't see any obvious offset difference side to side. Weird. Also, when we carefully measured the two tyre widths to see how much difference between a 205 and 215 ... they were within a couple mm!!! The 215 tyre was no wider! So that wasn't filling out the offset, just that 5mm isn't jarringly obvious. Wider would be nicer though (and 15's of course .... just get that in there quickly )

At least it's keeping me interested in the car a little longer. I haven't looked at any replacement at all as yet anyway. Been too much else going on with medical stuff for me and my wife plus finances being somewhat tighter due to all the BS from OS

My wife did actually like a WRX ts that we saw on display in the shopping centre a few weeks ago. She commented that it would suit me nicely ..... I love my wife

Offset. Because the hubs are in different locations and not identical between the cars.
