Yeah I think you're right. He, or they, are very good at finding details on the individual cars.

Not really, they approached me recently to enquire about the status of my two SE's, located in a different state, and called me by the wrong name...

I only ever owned the one, which I sold a few years ago.

I am the Registrar and part of the process is verifying information provided which I did with you. The info being checked showed your forum ID under the incorrect name/vehicle and was corrected after our communications. I'm sure you appreciate this verification process so as not to publish incorrect data (which in this case never was) and your reply was helpful in narrowing down the possible owner, thank you

Thought I'd go for a drive then remembered I wanted to check all the chassis rail bolts at some stage so thought I'd do that first. Glad I did! I'm surprised how much those loosen over time. Managed to tighten most up from under the car but the brake lines on the driver side got in the way so took out the seat and lifted the carpet. Wished both my arms were longer but managed to get to each nut/bolt to tighten them all.

Noticed a difference just on reversing over the driveway kerb bump. Had a good drive but unfortunately it didn't fix the 50-60 kph vibration I've had lately. It's obviously either a wheel out of balance or very possibly another buckled wheel.

None of this helped my confusion with the car lately. I too often second guess driving it.

Trouble is I'd never get what it's probably worth with only 65k on the clock. I haven't hit up any dealers yet but pretty sure any offers would be (unintentionally) insulting.

A few cars come to mind to replace her. Obviously an RF auto, but do I want another (even less in some ways) practical car, even though the RF is a lot more enjoyable car (for my wants) to drive. Golf GTi has always been very desirable to me, but I'm not keen on the current model's overuse of tech over simple switches and how much that might distract from the driving enjoyment. T-Roc R demo/used for similar price of a new GTi is very enticing, huge performance, and does overcome some of the GTi's tech issues but not all. I do like the idea of SUV practicality plus performance though! That also brings in the T-Roc R-Line (brand new) for same price, that has with the new model fixed many of the switch problems and with a 2L turbo has plenty sufficient power for my needs! Hyundai I30 N is tempting but feels too boy racer. Kona N was a possibility for a while but I've already gone off the looks. Been a couple of nice low mileage BMW 128ti locally that would also fit the bill.

Not going to make any hasty decisions, MXSE means way too much to me to just let her go. I've made that mistake too many times.

I've tightened up the chassis rail bolts at least once as well. They definitely need a second go after settling.

I think you and I are both getting itchy feet! Your car is a much nicer state than mine, but it's still not one to be traded in at a dealership. You need to sell privately then shop with money in your pocket. Unfortunately, this means dealing with the mouth breathers on Facebook and Carsales, but it's probably worth the $5k or so you'll hold on to!

I'm drawn to the GR86, personally. I think in the new year I'll go for a test drive, to get a feel for how green the grass is on the other side. The ND is too much of the same for me, I think I want a bit more of a change than that. GTI would be a great daily runabout/do-it-all, but I don't think it would be a satisfying spirited car for me, certainly not the current Mk8 (as you've identified). A T-Roc? That's a pretty big departure, at that point are you even having fun anymore?

I think we both have some "drive homework" to do! We can compare notes.

I also need to do my car justice by fixing the nagging issues that affect my enjoyment and desire to take it out. AC is the top of my list, but I know there's a number of things that if I just took the time would improve my enjoyment greatly. And if it comes to it, fixing those issues will help to sell it. I really don't look forward to tyre kickers, and moving all the parts I have! That alone has me wanting to stay put.

Very much my thinking too.

I horribly over think everything and usually stress myself unnecessarily then find one day I've just gone in somewhere, found "the" car, and done the deal...then wonder why I was stressing so much

Think I'll be doing the same. The GR86/BRZ is an obvious choice for the combination of fun, practicality plus security of hardtop (but how much would we miss the ability to drop the top when we want?!). They are not too badly priced either. I have always been paranoid about leaving my MX anywhere with the thought of coming back and finding the roof slashed.

I'm constantly reading car reviews, both professional as well as personal ownership views on the relevant forums. It usually gives some idea about the plus and minus's of the cars, though I never base my decision on these as personal likes and dislikes are so different. I've noticed a lot of mentions of the noise levels, though I wonder how much we'd notice that coming from an MX-5!

I haven't dríven an 86 since the very first model came out and that one (I tested a manual) had some annoying flaws that put me off. Those appear to have been overcome with this new model and engine. So it's a definite must do at some stage, even if only for a fun test drive

Lachy... have you seen the new green Limited edition online available this month? Looks interesting.

They look great, I'd want that green, or a blue colour if I went for it! Though I'm not a bronze wheel fan.
