Loosing spark to engine
Any info will be greatly appreciated.
My NA6 from time to time decides it wants to have a flame out. It runs and drives for a while then the engine dies.
We have re wired the immobiliser and cleaned all the terminals on the engine plugs including the crank angle sensor plug. It has done this maybe 5-6 times over the last 6 weeks. After fiddling around it runs again. I have not had the issue for 4 weeks since today and have even run it in an Auto-Sprint since it did it last. The car has been sitting for two weeks without use and started first crank. I drove it down the street and it died not even 5 minutes.
I don't think it is a is related to temperature, I am enclined to think it may be the crank angle sensor. When the issue is occurring it does crank but does not fire. It does not starve for fuel so I am not inclined to think it is bad fuel or blocked filter. The fuel pump can be heard when on accessories.
If there is a common issue or if any one has had similar symptoms, I'd love to hear from you.
Thanks in advance.
Chris.

Have coils ever been replaced?

Re: Loosing spark to engine
Not to my knowledge. Is that something that may fail intermittently? And would they revive themselves after approximately 1 hour?

Re: Loosing spark to engine
Try another set of high tension leads from a working car, these can break down as well.

Re: Loosing spark to engine
There are always exceptions... But I would have thought dodgy leads would cause a miss. This does not miss, it totally fails and when it fires again it behaves like nothing has happened. I appreciate your input but I recon the issue might be something else. New set of leads might go on the list for when I find and fix the issue.

Re: Loosing spark to engine
No problem. So the issue is a complete shutdown and a restart is required not an intermittent miss whilst driving?
A complete failure like that is potentially the CAS. Have you got a noid light to test the injectors when the car has failed or when cranking and it won't start?

Screwdriver in lead1 has no spark on crank to the induction manifold.

Re: Loosing spark to engine
If you were in Brisbane I could have lent you the test equipment for the injectors.
These are available in WA http://www.transquip.com.au/products/KC-Tools-11-Piece-Noid-Light-and-IAC-Tester-Set-08392.html
I use a tool by Waekon to test injectors and other of their tools for COP's.

Re: Loosing spark to engine
Thanks mate. I am pretty sure I am not getting power to the coils. I think it is auto-sparky time. Thanks for your suggestions.

Re: Loosing spark to engine
No problems, I was having a miss problem in mine, however it was at revs but did not cause the car to cease working hence the suggestions. The previous time when it would not start (was not missing) it was a failed CAS.

Re: Loosing spark to engine
Yeah. If mine didn't start I would be going for CAS but considering it will run then stop at irregular intervals I am inclined to think it is a bad connection somewhere.

Re: Loosing spark to engine
Could still be a CAS. Get one or two from a wrecker and see
Otherwise buy a new one and see.

Re: Loosing spark to engine
I'd lend you my CAS if you were in sydney.
Maybe one of your locals is prepared to lend you one?
Guess you could politely ask Madjak or Spikey?
