Broken Oil Dipstick

Postby Odd » Thu Jun 11, 2015 9:02 pm

Didn't realize how easy it is to break the plastic handle....
New one is $40
so I thought I'd have a go at fixing it
Super glued it back together.....a couple of beads of glue along each side
And then wrapped it in heat shrink plastic

Will advise on longevity ;)

Did you use HPDE glue? If you did, the heat shrink is unnecessary

I don't trust any glue
If the glue fails the wrap stops the top from falling off and being lost

Overkill perhaps?

I'd agree with the shrnk wrap.

No glue will be as strong as the original one piece part. Since the one piece part broke, there's a damn good chance the glue will too (eventually)

As above, the heatshrink at least keeps the end on (just floppy)

Archers use the same idea on arrows sometimes, if the shaft snaps (which they do, often) it means they havent lost the arrowhead.
