Well my restraint has come to an end.

I purposely purchased extended warranty when I bought my shining sunlight silver NC for this very reason.
But it is another case of Mazda slight of hand that bought it all undone.

At a bit over 40Mm and 4 seasons of motor sport it was time for new brake pads.
After trawling the net and seeking professional advice, I decided that I couldn't decide, so I chose to stick with what I knew worked.
My OEM brakes performed very well, great stopping power, good feel, good life and practically no black sh*t.
So at what has become my last ever dealer service I requested new OEM pads all round.
I was assured that the pads would be genuine Mazda and the same as the originals in every way.
Of course the more experienced of you won't be surprised when I tell you it was all bullshit.
Inferior pads at an exorbitant price.

The new pads create bucket loads of black sh*t, but worst of all the performance was much worse and I didn't even have the good ones to compare or put back in.
Back to the net I go searching for good pads.
Again unable to reconcile the conflicting views I bought the 12.88" Wilwood 6R slotted kit which comes standard with BP10 pads.
Great service from Goodwin they rolled up in 11 days and only took 3 1/2 hours to fit.
It would have only taken 2 hours but I had a lot of trouble extracting the stub axle assemblies to remove the backing plates.
The kit is truly a bolt on replacement and fits up perfectly.
This was very pleasing, but the initial performance wasn't.
I followed the bedding in instructions to the T but I still didn't think they were as good as the original.
However having now traveled about 300km on them they have rapidly improved.

On the Club run yesterday I thought that they at least as good as the OEM.
I think the feel is better but no matter how I tried I could not get the ABS activating and no lockup.
So I don't really know how good they are.
At least my wheels are clean!!!

Anyway since my love affair with Mazda (dealers) is over and the fact that the warranty runs out in April and the little Silver Bullet has done 45Mm it is time to give it (and me) a treat.
Much to my amazement 'tiger80's Ohlins DFV were still on the market, and it was Christmas, and I have been saving, and I have been very, very good, and I bought them, and I got them today.

After dinner I thought I'll just take these down to the workshop, unpack them and read the goods.
But they looked so good.
I put them on.
The fronts are finished and I will easily get the backs done later today.

ah so you were the one that bought the DFV's. you wont be disappointed with them!

as per the brakes, I read somewhere that the compound of the OEM pads changed a while ago

oh and now you have a garage thread, we want pics!

Well I don't think I have ever been so keen to get home and get working.

The back was a breeze, 4 hours.

Yes, I have been out driving.
The car is completely transformed.
After about 10 mins driving I was back in the workshop putting the Whiteline sway bars from the previous softest setting to the hardest.
Then out on the road again for another half hour, love it.
I am on Adrenallin RE002's @ about 60% gone (28psi all round) and she goes around corners like it is on rails.
Even the rough corners, no difference.

I don't know if the brakes are coming good or if the Ohlins have also improved the braking but I can't get the smile off my face.

For pictures I like to use an image hosting site such as http://imgur.com/, just upload the picture you want to use and post the link the website gives you. It should start and end with a [img] tag.

I used photo bucket, which has worked great.
In the photo bucket page, you will see a "direct" link and copy that. In your thread interface, use "img" button and paste the direct link.

I too had the same problem with the brake pads when I had them replaced at the MX5 Factory. The owner, says that the difference is the fact that they no longer contain a certain product. I can't be sure if it was a carbon compound or.......and I could be wrong, was it asbestos?

When you post a new post, you will see some option under your topic and above this section. In there you will find Img buttom, click on that or simply point your mouse on it and it will demonstrate how to place a in post picture like we did. It will be [img]your link[img].
And about the link, click on your uploaded picture in that website, you should be able to find a link call direct link or forum emblem something like that, thats the one you will put in between [img]

Asbestos was used in brake pads a LOT.

I thought it was banned from the 90s, but just reading on the web suggested that asbestos pads were only banned in 2003 in Australia...
