Harsh's Na and turbo build

Postby Harsh » Thu Nov 28, 2013 1:33 am

Hi all,

been a few people noticing my car around and wondering if im a member or not, so ive decided to write up a build thread/blog of my na6

The following are pictures i had on my phone, i've owned the car since november of 2012

I originally owned an na 2j, after spending far too much to keep it immaculate i decided to buy something a lot cheaper in terms of parts but was still engaging to drive.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4EJwL61mk-I
bought the na6 off one of the guys from pplatermods he had up for sale on carsales

This is how the car looked when i got it. completely stock apart from a generic alloy radiator, cooling plate and new soft top

Image

so first day i got the car i decided to head down to option 1 and pick up some new wheels and tyres.

Image

got these grids for a good deal at 16x8 +20, and they are far too heavy for this car. :?

Drove the car as my daily for a good 5,000k's before noticing the car needed to be stiffened and the clutch bearings started to go
picked up new clutch, pilot bearing, throwout bearing, slave, rear main seal and BC coilovers from mx5plus as well as some jackstands and a jack since i'd be doing the job myself. I really wish i took more pictures.

Image

I did the job on the ground which took me about 3 days. This is the last time the gearbox is coming out.

clutch, flywheel and rear main seal off

and then new clutch on

car ran good with the new clutch but I really wanted to change that stock single pegger diff with the torsen from an NA8

Image
Image

so i picked up this from mx5 plus, 2 way torsen :)

Image
diff all cleaned up and painted black, took out the stock bushings

Image
replaced them with superpro poly bushings, far stiffer then stock and shifts like butter.

Image
Image
cleaned and painted all the driveshafts

Image
Image
got some leather door pulls off pham, also reupholstered my doorcards and got rid of the need to cover up the bottom hole, makes it look a lot cleaner

Image
320mm steering wheel, now it feels like a go-kart

Image
Image
went to my first DS meet and met up with rollie who took some pictures of the car

new TSI's from pham

NB brakes with SE rotor from pham

poly front lip from ebay

Image
stoner eyes from pham

Image
ImageImage
cut up my rear parcel shelf for the carpet mod. used some left over door foam from when i did my door cards.

Image
test fitting my autokonexion flares, these add an extra 40mm to the wheelbase, holley hell

Image
Image
Image
small service on the car

Image
pick up a complete poly bushing kit, most of the stock bushings were practically falling out of their arms.

was pretty fun burning things

replaced my slave with one from bursons. Also got a braided clutch line from mx5plus

And this is where we are today.
Cars been sitting for 3months as I've moved for the need of more space, was going to sell the car but then decided to keep it :|
Got these in the mail today, T25 off an sr20 redtop and a mazdaspeed intercooler. Official power goal is 160kw atw with the 5spd
I didn't want a huge intercooler blocking the front airdam, as many na turbo owners experience increased underhood temps and I don't want any unwanted attention as its not going to be engineered.

gonna be properly documenting the car with this turbo build from now on.

Being a watercooled engine underhood air temp is not really important at all.

Good luck with the build :)

In terms of oil feed to the t25, is it recommended to use a -3AN line, or does the T25 require a restrictor if you use a -4AN?
