Anytime mate.

I assume you did what I suggested and all was good?

Also.

WELL DONE.

it feels damned good doesnt it.

People often ask how I learned what I know and most of it comes from getting on the net, listening to really clever people and then trying myself.

Dann

Yes I followed your advice and everything is good. Thanks. And yes it does feel like I have accomplished something. I also feel closer to the car.

Myself and Paul F had a DnM on the trip back from a normal Newcastle thursday night run to Kooragang island (thats street racing and burnouts in an industrial area, there was 300 odd cars and HEAPS of tyre smoke that night) about my views on cars, and how they have changed.

I no longer have the same giddy school kid feeling about cars, Ive gotten to the point that i can see a fast car and I just see a combination of parts and a performance figure. Regardless of the car, model or mods.

Ive got a new passion, no more or less strong. its just different. I dont get giddy about cars, I now look and analyze, and its a mental challenge. To figure out the mods, and to calculate how they did it, and how it could be made better, to research what needs to be done, and then find the people who want it, and convince them to let me build it for them.

Dann

EDIT:

ive had a few drinks. sorry.

What Im saying is that I no longer see a car and lust over what it is, what it does for the driver, what it can achieve, I see it and now appreciate the engineering and give credit to the builder, and enjoy researching, calculating and working out how it can be improved.

I dont get giddy about cars. I do enjoy driving and I enjoy keeping any car that lets me enjoy driving even more.

Just an epilogue to the timing belt story. I took the car for a nice long drive through the hills for a couple of hours. The car drove really really nicely. The engine is almost silent. Obviously the new idler and tensioner pulley and the water pump as well as the new belts have made a huge difference. The car also seems perkier. When I think about it the old belt stretched as evidence by how lose it was between the inlet and outlet cam sprockets. It was so lose that I was surprised it had not jumped a tooth. It would certainly have affected the relative timing between the inlet and exhaust cams and taken the car away from factory spec.

Maybe thats why it now feels so much quicker. Also happy to report absolutely nothing leaking :)

This is what the car scene needs more of.

More things like "not my taste, but it's executed really well"

I personally think the sydney "Sex-spec" cars look horrid, BUT, when I see one well done I can very much appreciate the work involved and the effort in making it (even if it's not my taste)

Conversely, I quite like my Japanese styled cars. BUT I also think one will look bad if corners are cut. (ie: random bits missing on the interior, badly fitted panels, etc)

I am not sure this is really relevant to my Garage Section Thread so if you could maybe start side discussions in a new post, it would be great. Having said that I did appreciate how well put together the MX-5 is.

Thanks for the info snshami, great write up. I had been looking at a different timing belt kits and suppliers, I will chase up Miatamecca.
