You can enjoy a nice handling well behaved car with some stick anywhere.
You cannot enjoy a poor handling slow car that has nice paint from the drivers seat.

No. If it drives worse than another car, and you are in the drivers seat (where you are sposed to be to enjoy a car) then you are enjoying the car less no matter what your paint looks like. Unless you are a wanker.

You're assumptions will be the death of you dann. You assume the primary place of use is the drivers seat.

or that the mods are only for his viewing not others.

We all like being complemented on our cars after all.

You consistantly assume that your priorities are the same as everyone elses.

HEAPS of people buy a car based on looks over performance.
HEAPS of people buy a car based on performance over looks.

The hot-rodding scene is a pretty good example, where many cars spend more hours being looked at and admired, instead of dríven (show cars..... of course there are plenty of drivers)

My uncle has a hot rod that has 13km's on it in 12 years, and they are nearly all tuning miles.....
For him, the beauty is in the building a car, showing it amongst his peers, and the OCCASIONAL drive.

Lol... Sorry dann,
I drive a 80 series land cruiser usually, and while it's not exceptionally fast and the handling reminds me of a cruise ship, it has pretty paint and I have a blast driving it! :D

If driving skills were more developed across the country, more people would be on our side of the fence modifying and maximizing the potential of their cars.

The mx5 is one of few cars that can be a JDM showstopper for under 10k, as irrelevant as a lap time may be to them, the joy they get from someone walking past a 40k infinity or Honda to check out the slammed Na6 is what they are in it for.
So lets go!

Edited for clarity:

I said in a previous post some things that I stated as fact. With the one exception of 'unless one is a wanker'.

Somebody please define wanker as I asked before contunuing the discussion, without referencing anyone.

I would never do this to my own car either, but there's no point in saying "everyone should enjoy cars in exactly the same way I enjoy cars".

Let me give an example: I love vintage and classic cars. They're not as fast as modern cars, or as practical, or as reliable, but I love them. Does this make me a wanker? Actually, to be honest, I don't really care whether it does or not. I like old cars; you like fast cars; this guy likes useless cars. That's just how it is. Different strokes.

Also, since "wanker" is just a word used for someone that the speaker doesn't like, its definition is just as subjective as what makes a good car.

I didnt say that I wasnt a wanker. And I didnt call anyone a wanker or say that it was a bad thing.
But in australia if you buy/build/modify or participate in anything with the sole, or majority purpose to look cool, that makes you a wanker. Ask your grandad to define it.

Scotty, do you enjoy your landcruiser because people look at you in it and think you are cool?

Paul, do you like older cars because other people think you are cool for it?

Do I have no windows or interior because girls will like me more for it?

If I bought a 300c and put 24 inch crhome wheels on it and made it as low as that mx5, ive ruined everything about the car except maybe the noise, and how people will percieve me. What does that make me?

When the one person every couple months recognises my car for what it is and appreciates it thats nice. But thats not what its built for.

Dann is 100% right, these cars are too dangerous for the road, but hey if you just want to look at your car and not drive it at all....

Its the Wankers who take these monstrosities on the road that freak it up for the rest of us.
