NB/SE ECU connector pins

Postby Roadrunner » Fri Aug 02, 2019 5:37 pm

What pins are used on the ecu harness plug for an NB? Adding an oil sensor and strangely can't find any info online as to what pin size/type is used in the factory plug to the ECU.
Bonus points for if you can point me to where I can buy in less than a pack of 50 (I need 2...)

For future searchers that find this thread; the pin part numbers provided in the turbomiata link above are for the NA, even though the thread starter there says he has an 04 NB, so I don't know what's going on there, even the plug in the pic is not what the 04 NB has.

The correct pin for the 04 NB ecu connector is 316836-1
https://au.rs-online.com/web/p/crimp-contacts/7121867/

I originally purchased the pins advised in the link and the small ones fit the connector but didn't click/lock in place. After a lot of head scratching
and nervously trying to fit them I gave up as obviously something was wrong. Now that I have the correct pins they slide right in and click in place. Thankfully no (or only minimal damage maybe) to the retainer lance. Talk about extreme anxiety for something so simple!

So if anyone needs pins for either NA or NB, I now have 48x of each model if someone needs some....

The connectors and terminals used are TE Connectivity MULTILOCK 040 III series. If you want to source these locally they are available from RS components.

NB8B/SE ECU PCB connector (353830-5): https://au.rs-online.com/web/p/pcb-sockets/7201257/

17-way connector (353027-1): https://au.rs-online.com/web/p/wire-hou ... s/7201244/

24-way connector (353029-1): https://au.rs-online.com/web/p/automoti ... s/7122312/

The 31-way connector doesn't appear the be available however this one is the same apart from one of the keyways. It will fit if the keyway on the mating PCB connector is trimmed down.

Terminals:

There's a few different versions for different wire size and contact plating. Ideally the terminal contact materials should match to prevent corrosion. There are a number of pins on the OEM connector that are gold.
