I have an old aftermarket immobiliser that came with the car when I bought it. It doesn't work, it's ugly, and it's heavy.
How can I get rid of it simply unplugging and tossing it in the trash doesn't work and causes the car not to start.
Any idea how I can properly remove this hunk?

You'll need to locate the immobiliser/alarm's main box and then it's a process of carefully tracing each wire and working out what has been cut or spliced and what each one does. Once you know which wires do what, they can be carefully removed and the remaining original cable join/splice insulated. If an original wire has been cut and joined to two different immobiliser wires, this original wire needs to be rejoined. There will be at least one behind the ignition that has been cut and joined to two separate cables from the immobiliser and it's this one that is stopping the car from being started. It's not a job to be rushed but it's pretty satisfying when you see the pile of cables and parts removed

Cheers Kev! I'll have to have a crack at it when I get some time, do many panels/garnish have to be removed in the interior?

It's really easy to remove the panel under the steering wheel and the indicator stalk surrounding trim, that's all I'd imagine that's needed.

Sometimes also the side kick panels depending how they've wired the door switches (if full alarm).
