NA8 firing order /coil packs

I am currently putting my NA8 engine back together. When positioning the coil packs I noticed on the MX5 owners manual that cylinders 2 & 3 plug leads were opposite to my car. I checked photos I took of the engine before dismantling and this was how the car was running prior to removal. The cylinders were even marked on the coil pack the same as the manual but this was not how they were connected to the spark plugs. Does it matter? Hope someone can enlighten me here please?

sounds like the coil plugs are plugged in the wrong way around. this doesn't matter if the leads are also the other way.

It doesnt matter.
Cylinder 1-4 and 2-3 fire on the same coil at the same time so they can be swapped.

Don't know about NA's but NB's have Wasted spark ignition - plugs fire simultaneously in pairs. One piston is at the end of compression stroke & other is on exhaust stroke (wasted spark). That's why it works ok with leads wrong.
Cheers
